About to do my first oil change myself. Just wondering exactly how many quarts does it really take to fill it up while also changing out oil filter?

I just did the first oil change on my 13 and after 7 quarts the dipstick showed it almost a qt low. I put another half a qt in it and got it almost to the full line but was kinda afraid to put any more in it. I know the book says 7 but the dipstick (in mine anyway) wants more. Anyone else have this issue?

I have not heard of anyone having this issue.
Is the truck on level ground? Did you start the truck after adding oil to let it circulate for a minute and then recheck the oil level?

I usually end up around 6.5 qts to bring it up to the top indicator on the dip stick (cold). I put 7 in once and it was too high. Not all of the oil completely drains out so that's probably why.
