Have people flashed you thinking your highs were on?

If your asking me, yes, all the time. I really didnt give a shit until I was driving our work truck(super duty) and my wife was behind me in the Raptor. I swore she had her brights on, I had to adjust the rear view and hide from the side views. It was pretty distracting, I cant imagine what it must have been like for compact cars I was following, lol.

That basically is what lead to this thread.

For guys running HID in stockers, try it sometime. drive another car and let someone follow you in your Raptor, you'll see what Im sayn.

I have been blasting people doing this for over 10 years.
A good life lesson I try to live by is to plan for the worst and hope for the best. Imagine driving at night in the rain on a two lane road with a 65 year old with horrible night vision driving directly at you in her Caddy. What headlights would you rather have? Headlights are something you use almost every day in a DD, why skimp on headlights?? Guys/gals wouldn't hesitate a second to spend thousands on horrible looking wheels, why not something that's actually functional?? Because some ricer yes, that is who started the tacky trend, can spend $40 on a cheap HID kit doesn't make it a good idea. Sorry for being an ass about it, but it truly is a safety issue. There is a reason they are ILLEGAL. And if you cause an accident with them, you better prey their lawyer doesn't hear about them because you can bet your ass your going to get sued. Might as well hook up an overloaded trailer that's above the factory tow limit while your at it. Yeah, you can probably get away with it, but is it worth the risk? Guess that's up for each individual to decide.

I have never been flashed. The main road by my house is a dark 2 mile straight stretch of 2 lane. No one thinks I have them on. I have my parents drive my truck and I drive my moms crossover in front and toward. Its not blinding. Most projector lights are worse.
here is why projectors can blind worse. A projector has a crisp cut off so the light is either 0 or 100% most put you in that 100% range. Mine have that bit above the cut off but its only maybe 5 or 10% of the brightness. Not blinding

This leads to my next question:
To those that were flashed, did you guys have 55w or 35w?

i can only attest to a little while ago i was working me an my partner were coming down a main road an a suv heading opposite direction basically made the inside of our patrol car daylight. we both had thought the brights were on an my partner is a lot more knowledgeable on vehicles then me anyway we decided to go have a "conversation" with said motorist. basically the vehicle did not have the headlights in the high beam it was a Mercedes truck i think dont quote me but it had projector headlights all factory equipment the drive was very nice an said it wasnt the first time he had been stopped thinking his high beams where on. i have had hids in my old tacoma wich didnt have projectors an my little brother would drive in-front of me with his evo an never complained. at times when we would turn a corner he did say he would get a blinding glare in a mirror an agreed it sucked . this all being said i think that i agree with clinser they can have bad effects but i also dont know fully what variables the come into play i have been blinded by projectors with hids an seen stock none projectors with hids that didnt do much .Clearly a lot of variables come to play height of vehicle type of headlight, hid, how the headlight is aimed this being said if somone has knowledge to share on such variations i personally would love to learn because i do want hids but not at someone elses expense. just looking to learn not trying to stir crap up

The difference between 35w and 55w is only a few hundred lumen. When your talking about a system that has several thousand lumen output you will not really notice the difference if they are coming at you.

Ok since I'm probably the only one with a stock housing hid and a vehicle with proper projectors I took some pics.
This is my raptor the way the lights are always. And the projectors are on my Moms Mazda CX-9. They are real Bi-xenon lights and are adjusted to what the manual specifies. Both are taken in the same spot from the same distance (25 paces) the same height off the ground with the same camera settings.
A camera can't pick up glare like an eye can, but the starbursts around the lights can give you an idea.

Neither is blinding in any way. But I will state that the projectors look brighter to the eye from this distance.

Do you know how high the camera was held?
