I fully agree paying ADMs is a bad move for the consumer, but everyone needs to keep in mind the absolute a$$ kicking dealerships have faced over the past year or more. With the supply chain issues, and increased demand in the market, they literally can't get enough cars to sell these days. If you haven't noticed, dealership lots are nearly empty compared to where they were pre-Covid. Dealers are paying over sticker for used vehicles on trade-ins because consumers are willing to buy them from dealers at those higher prices. Supply and demand. It's pretty simple. Don't hate the dealer for trying to maximize their profit. They are a business, not a charity. If the market lets them get away with a 35K ADM then get mad at the people willing to buy at that price not the dealer that is running a business.
Poor dealerships. There are plenty of businesses doing fine by adapting

They are adapting. They are charging what they think they can get for a scarce commodity with high demand. Some will purchase, some won’t. It doesn’t make them bad people. There are plenty of other things dealerships do that make them bad people, but charging market price is hardly the most egregious thing.

They are adapting. They are charging what they think they can get for a scarce commodity with high demand. Some will purchase, some won’t. It doesn’t make them bad people. There are plenty of other things dealerships do that make them bad people, but charging market price is hardly the most egregious thing.
Hey. I’m all for free market capitalism. The issue I have is treating them like the slow kid in math class and giving them accommodations. Most businesses had a rough go during covid. I know I did but you figure it out, and I didn’t spike prices because repeat clients are 80% less costly than new to acquire.

They are free to charge what they want or conduct business as they see fit. I have an issue with them straight lying to customers or ******** people when orders come in with surprise adm. Other than that, doesn’t bother me. I just don’t play that game. I may go a few grand over for a high demand vehicle but thats it.

I ordered a TRX November 2020 from dealer closest to me. Was told feb delivery and 5 over sticker. When they couldn’t deliver by feb I told them I would keep the order but only if they removed the adm. They refused (i was kinda shocked but hey. Their business) and I canceled. Then bought one at sticker within a couple weeks.

I gave them another chance on a 22my truck order. Asked them to match the prices posted for orders by other dealers, 5k under. They said they were still getting 5-10 over. I said cool, you just lost a local customer that buys a lot of cars.

Just chatted with my FIL who works at a Toyota dealership. He said the salesmen are doing just fine selling everything at sticker. Yeah they aren’t selling as many vehicles every month, but the MSRP deals are supplementing it

I was in the market for a sports car when the final gen viper first came out. Went to Dodge with proof of funds. It was between that and one other car. They wouldn’t even let me test drive it.

Yeah I was young but showing them my ability to pay on the spot and ready to buy. Escalated to manager. “If you were buying it wouldn’t you want nobody else having driven it?”

Idiot. I’m gonna buy this or that today. Sorry. No test drive. Left. Bought other car. Drove it to the dodge dealer and did a burnout down the length of their lot.

Viper sat for 3 years then sent to wholesale auction lol
And the other car?

I agree with you wholeheartedly. If you order something at an agreed price, they should sell it at that price when it arrives. Repeat customers are MUCH easier to keep than landing new customers. If a dealer screws over a customer, then it is bad business. I've had to take some significant margin reductions on things this past 18 months to make deals happen, and I'm more inclined to do it for a repeat customer. That's just good business.

I bought a '21 Tradesman 2500 for one of my businesses earlier this month from a local dealer, and I asked that dealer to give me $5,000 off a TRX order like the other dealers that are willing to sell for less. They said the best they could do was sticker because they only get so many TRX allocations. Like you, I said cool, but no thanks. If that dealer has something I want in the future at a price I'm willing to pay I will use them again. They treated me fairly on the truck I just bought, and they were honest by telling me they couldn't match the $5,000 off. It's purely business at that point.

What is a manufacturer going to do with your trade in when you have one? I'm not against direct-to-consumer models, but dealerships do serve a purpose. Whether you let them take advantage of you or not is entirely up to you.
I don't care what they do with my trade in.

agreed, it's up to you to get taken advantage of or not.

I don't play that game. And I'd rather wait years than ever pay an ADM fee.

I'd just prefer a sales model that is even across the board for everyone.
