Is your dealership selling their Raptors with a ADM?

Abusive Dealer Markup?

^^ exactly!

The dealership I work for has 2 Ford stores within about an hour of each other. We each got allocation for 4 Raptors. Both stores sold our allocation for sticker price.

We have sold some of our hard to get stuff for over sticker before. I've sold here for just about 30 years. Over that time when we have sold for over MSRP we've been 1/2 to 1/4 of what our market area was. Last year the closest dealer to us sold their GT350 for $20k over sticker. We sold ours for $5,000 over. That was to a previous customer of mine who lives 5 hours away. I've been selling him cars since 1996. A 96' Cobra, 2013' Boss 302 and the 16' GT350. All somewhat hard to get vehicles. His family owns a large business that has many car dealerships as customers. They also buy a lot of fleet units from those dealerships. Yet nobody will give them as good of a deal on the hard to get stuff as we do.

I find it hard to understand how people feel that when a dealer marks up a product that it's gouging or unfair. We sell our entire product line other than specialty stuff for under invoice. We never have people coming in that say, "oh wait that's not enough, I should pay you MSRP".

That guy who buys cars from you sounds like he has some coin to throw around. He's a perfect prospect to pay over sticker for a car. For most others, price is significant when they're looking for a vehicle. Most people don't want to get ripped off. With most specialty Ford vehicles (Shelby's, Boss cars and Raptors) the resale market doesn't support paying over sticker on any of them. Your point on selling other Ford cars for less? Well that's also because msrp is not supported in the resale market. Nobody is going to buy a one year old used F-150 for $5K under sticker when you can get a new one from the dealer for $10K off.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, some don't mind paying over sticker for a GT3 (RS) special Ferrari etc as the value of those cars sometime go up in the resale market. So it's all relative. Pay over sticker for a Raptor and you're getting bent over without lube. Pay over sticker for a rare Porsche and you may make some money on the deal.

But as a car sales guy, you know this. I've cultivated a relationship with my Ford dealer who doesn't pull any crap on me with respect to paying a premium on any of the specialty Fords. I'll never do business with any dealer who pulls this kind of crap even if they're dealing on their other cars on the lot. I just write them off as someone not to do business with. Please tell me who you work for so I can write your dealership off as well...

Quite interesting that you'd find it acceptable for someone to pay over sticker for a Porsche or Ferrari but not a Ford. Dealer admin has nothing to do with what potential future value of the item may be. Most people don't buy these cars with future value in mind or for an investment. It has to do with what people are willing to pay to either be one of the first to have a certain item or just simply the chance at being able to own one because of supply and demand.

Do you write off restaurants that have certain items at "market Price". Would you sell your current Raptor for 10% - 20% under the current market value because that current market value is "bending people over without lube"? I doubt it. It all goes back to peoples opinion. This topic can be debated all day long every day and people won't agree on it. For some reason people seem to have a double standard when it comes to what car dealership should be allowed to charge.

I already responded to your similar comment in the gen 2 for msrp thread. It's capitalism and you're free to sell at whatever price you can get away with and that's fine, but I'll take my business to someone that gives me the price I'm looking for. I may not order something at a restaurant selling a catch of the day at market price if I think it is disproportionately priced for what l'm getting. We as consumers shop around for deals constantly, gas stations, online shopping instead of purchasing in store, quotes and bids on repair work or home construction.

Got my vin and build date of Oct 20th. Ordered fully loaded lightning blue screw with carbon fiber as well. I ordered from Legacy Ford Rosenberg, TX and was first order. If they sold the option I bought it. Ford just shut up and take my money!

Congrats! I found out I'm #2 on the list when I thought I was the first order in. Hopefully a vin# and build date aren't too far down the road.
