Ford horrible quality

In the 90’s my HK USP40 came wrapped in a plastic bag (inside the HK box) with a thin coat of this all over the metal parts, and an instruction card on how to clean before use. (I have a vague recollection the instructions said it was a cosmoline gel to keep the gun rust free prior to use.)

Pain to clean off. Only gun I ever bought that came that way. Worked though, metal parts perfect.

it was the first time I used it and honestly the stuff I bought can only be purchased in hood old rattle cans. Neighbors probably thought I was nuts crawling all over under my Wrangler and spraying everything.
What I liked about it was Fluid film never lasted the winter with my Tacoma. It just washed away after a while.

This stuff never even dripped off anywhere when I applied it and after two salty seasons it has held up. It is CRC 6026. My dad bought a new Ram right before winter, crew cab. Think he used 6 cans over 2 coats of application.

I have a buddy who did an undercoating with the plasticized rubber on a new 2500 - it started flaking off after a season and there was rust under it. If there is any rust under this type of coating it just won’t stick.

Had another family member pay for line x on his STI Subaru, and that turned out to be a disaster a couple years in. Rust was present underneath the line x and it ate a hole in his frame.

My 2018 frame/undercarriage had a much thinner more “matte” looking coating to it, pretty much identical to whatever stuff is on the exhaust tips, I didn’t really have any rust when I got it but I did drive through 1/2 a winter (bought in mid February) before getting chance to treat it w/ some products in spring, did get a lil rust on the rear axle/diff but I hit it all up w/ rustoleum gloss black before treating the whole thing w/ amsoil HDMP, it held up great for 35k miles until a girl broad sided me totaling it

my 2020 has a completely different coating from the factory, all semi-gloss black & definitely a thicker coat, everything has this semi-gloss black coating tow hooks/frame etc except the exhaust tips seem to be the same thin matte black finish

I also didn’t get a chance to treat the 2020 before winter since I bought mid November this time, however wasnt as concerned b/c of this different factory coating & I just wasn’t driving as much. I will still give it a coating in amsoil HDMP, but I think all the newer F150s have a better undercarriage coating now from the factory precisely because of this.

I ordered my truck and took delivery the day after it arrived, there were maybe two or three small rust spots underneath and I immediately went through this process to coat the underside and fix what little rust spots there was with paint. Over a year later, it still looks exactly as it does in these pictures, no rust and very shiny, just some water spots. Thought I’d share the process and products. I’m extremely impressed with this product.

Does that stuff turn amber in color once it dries ? I been looking to do that also. I have a little bit of rust also, but I want to nip it in the bud before it gets out of control. Did you spray your shocks and springs and plastics also ??

Yes. Under the truck. No, it doesn’t look great, but it has no affect on long term durability.

Toyota rear axle housings also commonly rot out. Most people notice a wet spot/leak on the integral rear cover, which is gear oil permeating the perforated metal. It requires replacement of the entire rear axle assembly, at least up until recently when Dorman came out with a weld-on replacement since the issue is so common.

Yea, better to have the entire frame rust in half instead of having mild surface rust on a cast iron chassis component.

I seen 7 frames all stacked on top of each other at the last Toyota dealer I drove by, lol. What a joke, why even have a crossbrace with that many f'n holes in it. Junk!!
