I just was nerding out for a year on this stuff and there is a bit of dirty knowledge about the stock mount variants.
The front mount stuff is way more efficient because of its geometry. A wider face intercooler with a max thickness of 3.5 inches is most efficient for flow through designs.
Stock mount solutions are as much as 5 + inches thick (
@Nex ). At that thickness yes you can remove heat from charge temps but they reach a point that because of the depth the pass through cooling ability of the air is somewhat nullified after the first 3 inches. And thus they take an extremely long time to cool down.
Front mount stuff can maintain recovery based on a thiner wider profile which is advantageous.
