Nice thread, definitely made my first change go smooth!
To drain the pan, I used a 10 litre (2.5gal) pail which worked well, no splashes or spills.
I was able to get two hands on the filter to remove it which made things easy!
The only surprise was the filter drains through a little square (2"x2") cutout in the skidplate....I was expecting it to run out the removable plate opening via the plastic diverter. So.... a small spill on my garage mat but I'll know better next time!
I changed at 100hrs, 3900kms(2400mi), 70% remaining.
I didn't reset, and may let it use up the 70%, depending on how high the kms go.
I put in the Ford full synthetic 5w-30.

People keep forgetting to account for the time it takes to schedule appointment, drive to dealer, wait at dealer, deal with dealer screwup, etc. and you still have no way to trust that the dealer monkey put the right oil or filter in.

I was given a free oil change with the purchase of my last truck - 2012 FX4 with the 3.5L eco - so I took the truck back to the dealer for it's first oil change, even though I've always done them myself. About a week later I noticed the $0 invoice noted the don't-give-a-shit dealer monkey used 5W-20, despite the fact the manual and even the oil cap specify 5W-30. So I ended up having to change the oil myself anyway.
Also, I can confirm the Fumoto valves don't fit our oil pans. Just tried installing the F107N after oil change #2 this morning.

Plastic drain plug... weight saving WTF moment.
I'd wager that it's not about weight savings so much as it's about stripped drain plugs/oil pans and leaks.

Today's plastics are durable enough to handle oil drain duties without the problem of injuring pan threads on the occasional crossthreading mishap.

Ok did the first oil change today. Thanks for all the tips in this thread. Didn't bother with drain bolt and all the associated mess reported here. Got a good 5.25 quarts right out of the dipstick with my mityvac. The oil filter was a major ****. Eventually got the ****** off with a long extension and my right angle impact. I used a mobil filter this time and just hand tightened it back on. I'm thinking either k&n filter next time (if they make one for our truck) since they have the nut at the end, or even doing the filter only every other oil change. Filter is a pita on this truck.
Truck is also way too low in front. I didn't want to do the leveling kit but seeing I can't even currently get underneath with a low profile creeper and scraping the front regularly while Wheeling last weekend, i have decided to do the rpg collars soon.
