the hellcat engine is not next level.
the hellcat engine in a truck is.

what other mass produced truck has had that sort of horsepower without being a gigantic truck. maybe the srt10.

SVT Lightning ring a bell? 454 SS? Hell, even the Gen 2 with the HO 3.5 was head turning for 2017.

Everyone should be happy that the big automakers are all making mass produced high
horsepower engines and sticking them in trucks. hell even jeep has the 392 now. And you know what? that is ******* awesome.

And yeah, you are right, the V8 sounds so much better than a V6. Regardless of horsepower.
I can appreciate a v6 that turns out 450hp. that is pretty cool. Still sounds like a tuned honda.

If you think the Ecoboost sounds like a tuned Honda, you need to have your ears checked. It sounds more like a VQ engine than anything, and that’s not a bad thing. But man, I’ll tell ya! Ma vroom vroom noises ain’t the same man! Ain’t no good man! Back in the day, had this 350 Chevy. Sounded sweet man! That was a real engine!

Funny how none of ya'll have an issue with ford putting the exact same engine in the next generation of raptor. Zero improvements. Sure it was great in 2017, but after 5 years they need to up the ante.

Zero improvements? They bumped the compression ratio and brought max torque on sooner. It’s also the very first model year. You really think they aren’t planning something?

By your standard, why is FCA/LGBTQ/Stellantis getting away with dropping literally the same motor in every vehicle they have. The 6.4 hasn’t changed in years. The Hellcat has been around for awhile now. Where’s the improvement?

The problem with that is to up the horsepower now reliably they need to go to a bigger engine, which ruins the pretty great mpg the 2nd gen raptor gets.

Now you’re starting to use your head.

But i'll give up mpg's for more horsepower any day. If I wanted good gas mileage I'd get a prius, or some other ***** car.

Nobody is buying a truck for fuel economy period. But that MPG figure on the window sticker made the choice to spend 60k+ easier knowing I wasn’t getting the shaft every time I had to fill up.

Those fuel costs add up and I prefer to do my best to control them on a vehicle that I drive often. Call me crazy for wanting to save here and there.

Let’s put it this way. The worst MPG a Raptor will do is still better than anything a TRX will do on a good day.

I don’t understand the logic that just because we’re not driving priuses mpg shouldn’t matter at all. Power vs mpg is always a trade off and your decision is based on how you use the vehicle. How many people are willing to trade 5 mpg for 250hp? Seems like a decent amount.

What if Ram delivered a truck that made 1500hp but got 1mpg city and 2.5mpg highway. Would we still buy it because it’s a truck and we’re not worried about mpg? At some point it matters because it impacts the usefulness of the vehicle. For me I’ll trade the v8 for the range the gen 2/3 gets on long off road trips.

I agree, but with increased horsepower comes an increased price...gotta feed the beast. I am completely happy with my decision to find a good used CPO Raptor, but I was on the fence about ordering a TRX.

First let me say I just sold a Hellcat Challenger and I have no complaints about the blower whine or the exhaust note of the supercharged Mopar motor. I had an opportunity to order a new one at invoice (about $5K below MSPR) and it was still about $72K the way I optioned it. Thus, the decision to purchase the '17 CPO Raptor that was about $15K less. I don't think you have to take sides and bash one or the other, they are both great trucks and I'd be happy to have either. At this time, I was just fortunate enough to find a clean CPO Raptor or I may have paid the difference for a new TRX.

LOL @ MPG. No man on his death bed ever said; "I wish I would have gotten a more fuel-efficient vehicle".

Some things in life can't be quantified with a price tag, the feeling of pure power and its sound is one of them IMO.

But how many have said "I wish I had paid attention to important things instead of all those effing cars"? I'll bet there have been a few. Family, friends, security, food ... at the end of the day the real difference between a Prius and and Raptor is that one is a luxury. And arguing about which luxury is better is, well, a luxury. So enjoy.
