I had a "technician" at a state inspection facility crack a windshield and not tell anyone. When my wife went to pick up the vehicle, the manager said it failed due to broken windshield! Wife looked at it and said No Fu*king Way it was like that before it was brought in. We're not idiots, there was ~8" shattered area at the base of the windshield. No way we would even take it in with that crap.

After I had a chance to get to the shop, I inspected the big crack and found the initiation point on the inside of the glass. While scraping off the old sticker, the goon jammed the scraper tool down into the dash/windshield junction and the contact pressure on the inside cracked the glass big time. Manager stepped up to pay for it no problem. The goon didn't last long. He was a real nice guy, but about 350lbs and clumsy, so...
Wow I’m glad they paid for it. I’m goin to dealer tomorrow. Hopefully there will be no headache

A better picture. It’s really bizarre. I would be ok if that was actually a crack from the rock but that looks like internal stress crack because there is no other explanation

Outside glass is untouched

Probably was still the cause. Tempered glass is under huge stress internally, it only takes just the right (wrong?) vibration to crack or shatter. I watched a guy crack a front windshield by tapping on the drivers side door mirror trying to remove broken chunks from the side mirror.

Why try to get the dealer to cover a windshield after nearly 30K miles? You have glass coverage on your ins right? They don't ding your rates for a windshield.

It’s 36 miles or 3 years bumper to bumper. If that was my fault, 100% insurance. I think its a vehicle defect

I'm just saying - who cares? It's no money out of your pocket either way.

If you claim it on your insurance, you could have it done in your driveway under your direct supervision. No footprints on the dash that way. No trips to the dealer, no leaving your truck there, no chances at door dings, other vehicles backed into yours, all the fun stuff that happens to customer cars at dealers every day. I can understand if it affected your rates- but it doesn't.

I had a rock on the highway almost go through my windshield. Point is, I had it done by Safelite with OEM glass (make sure you tell whoever does it OEM glass only) and the dude who did it was such a pro. Done in my driveway as mentioned. They will even recalibrate the camera.
