Either was I. Until I read about it, saw videos on it, then drove one and bought it! It still blows my mind and everyone that rides in it.

Nothing more than some entertainment. Here's a drag race between Gen I and Gen II -

Hi, my brother builds High Performance motors for some of the local drag racing guys and last Tuesday night when me and the wife where driving home from picking up the truck he was outside his shop with two other guys loading up a motor to be sent to test Hp numbers when we went by, he let me get out of ear range and called me, said that it sounded good and the two guys with him also, then he told them it was a v6tt and the both said no way! He likes it and so do I! Took him for a quick run to town yesterday and he said it was unreal how fast it is !

Bwahahaha, WRONG, good one rohardi lol.

But let's be real, the new eco is nothing short of amazing. I'm sure it will remain the new standard package on the street and in the racing circuits.

This Gen2 vs Gen1 rivalry is good clean American fun.

My '17 is great, lots of fun, really rip the gears and sound real good for a v6. BUT, I just put my name in on the 2019 version, as it will definitely see a change in style (as we all have been looking at this for 2 years now) and maybe suspension change (rear), especially WHEN it gets more motor. The changes coming to this Gen will make it outdated quicker than you can say 5.4 raptor. Manufacturer competition will dictate time. Changing the eom stereo vender ranks right up there with BOLD NEW GRAPHICS!

I agree that the 2019 will see a refresh, but odds are that it will only be to match the 2018 F150 exterior styling cues. I don't see a suspension change happening (the Gen1 suspension was unchanged for its entire 4yr run) since there is a significant amount of engineering involved in that. Same for the engine. The 3.5HO will most likely be the engine in the Raptor for a while. This is a brand new engine, and they aren't going to toss it aside after just 2 yrs. They also aren't going to do much tweaking on it after just two years. About the only changes for 2019 will be exterior styling, trim options and maybe color choice. I could be wrong here (highly doubt it) but history (and business logic) has shown Ford will only make minor tweaks for any vehicle until it has run for 4yrs.

I sure hope so, I have read from a number so sources ford has a eco boost 5.0 ready to go, but no models announced for it just speculations. If they do i'll have to trade in my 13 for it. Even a naturally aspirated 5.0 would make me happy. Not sold on the V6

I wasn't sold on it either until my 17 came in....it's insane how much faster this thing is than my gen 1. Makes the old truck feel like it was dragging piano behind it....and that was with a tune and engine work. This thing just GOES!!

While it is true the 3.5 has more power than the outgoing engine, longevity is a major concern. Have a look at the 3.5 engine problems over the years and compare that to what has changed for 2017. I would not recommend owning an ecoboost outside of any kind of warranty.

This is the same thing that the “Windsor” v8 fans said about the modular v8 back in the 90’s. While initially, and I’m not sure of the length of time, but initially the failure rate of the 4.6 was higher than the 5.0 is was replacing, there came a tipping point at which the 281 became more viable and reliable.

I’ve had them both, in Mustangs, a Lightning and now the 3.5tt. Look, I get it. I really liked my 90 GT, but the 97 SVT was better in every-single-aspect.

The 3.5 is almost certainly past this “tipping point” and frankly I see F150’s campaigned by lawn care companies all day long. Quite literally. it’s fine that you don’t recommend not having a warranty on the 3.5 but here’s the thing:

EVERYONE here who owns a Gen 2 Raptor HAS a bumper to bumper warranty...

Only for 36k miles. My warning is to invest in a high quality aftermarket warranty if you plan to keep forever. This engine has common failures that are not cheap fixes. These same common failures were not addressed in the revised 3.5

Do you have links?

This, so-called ecoboost 5.0 would have serious packaging issues.
