What an awful sound!!!

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Funny, I was at the Ford parts desk yesterday and a tech was ordering cam phasers for a truck in the shop.

The video is probably at the end where he is about to have a catastrophic failure. When it first starts happening, it doesn’t have the knock, it’s more of just a rattle. My understanding is eventually it will fail and the bill goes from a $3500 fix to a $10k-$12k rebuild. Those were prices several years ago on a FX4 eco not a 2018 Raptor.

I’m sorry. Had the repair at 25k, car sat through a six day trip and rattled on startup, 1000 miles since they fixed it. I’m more sad than angry, always been a blue oval family. This may be it.

What did the dealership say when you brought it in? I can already hear the run around spooling up...

I had an old Ford Exploder that made a rhythmic, rpm related tapping that sounded reminiscent of an old slant 6 dodge that hadn’t ever had its valves adjusted. I thought for sure I’d be pulling and replacing that motor. For about 50,000 miles. It had over 270,000 miles on it when I traded it, still rat-a-tat-tapping away, with a low order, rhythmic ‘knock’ and lights that dimmed and flickered. But it just wouldn’t stop.

I’m sure there are trucks here with the problem and a lot more without.

Haven’t YET developed a problem. Stopped by the dealer today, four Raptors and a 2018 in for phasers. Not a good sign.

They are asking for a new engine. I have a few months left to Lemon Law it, first complaint was at 5,000 miles.

I spoke to my service writer. He said bring it in, they will keep it over night and see when they start it if it makes the noise. I know it won’t. I did get the Ford “premium” extended warranty, and he said he saw that listed on my vin report which is good I guess. I guess I’m going to wait for it to get worse. Oh and the kicker, “make sure you bring in all your service records” (aka my get out of jail free card)...
