I don't think that is correct. As I understand it- it IS rated at 800 ft-lbs, but that includes the multiplication of the torque converter. So when you back that out, you end up with around 450 ft-lb "engine capacity". Just above what the 6.2L is rated at.
Personally, I think the trans will be fine if he doesn't flat out abuse it. A turbo setup is a LOT easier on parts than a PD blower setup, and the guys with those aren't spitting transmissions left and right. Some tweaks to the line pressure may be worth it- talk to the tuner about what they can do with that.
That sucks....I'll never be able to talk my wife into sc hers if mine cracks up....
