I do the best I can with what I have to work with. This is literally the cheapest part in the entire component list - $25. Ive told the manufacturer several times I will pay 5X that if they can make a better product. They keep making small improvments, just like with the rings but design, retooling, development - these things all take time and when they make a run of 1000pc they need to sell them all before moving to the next version.

Dawson, I've not actually seen/touched these things yet. Is there anything that can be done by the installer to improve the water resistance of the offending component?

Well after talking with Dawson and determining that he feels worse about this than I do am going to help try and get to the bottom of this issue. It is something that can be fixed. Decided to go this route because Dawson is a good guy and his lights are the best for our application.

Hey Guys,

This wiring harness issue is one that Dawson and I have been working on together over the last couple of months. I talk to him almost daily to try and decide how best to improve the harness and every piece of it to make it the best that it can be. He already goes above and beyond and does a number of little things himself to help prevent failures.

The last major update was to the relay itself to make the internals stronger and more reliable long term, of course those of you with older relays will be covered under warranty should you have a malfunction, please just shoot Dawson a call or email and we will get a replacement in the mail for you ASAP.

The next generation will have an update to the connection between the relay and harness body to make sure that we can prevent as many of these failures due to moisture/oxidation as possible. It is tough to find an 8 pin connector that is waterproof and hot swappable (to replace the relays) but we have been in contact with TYE and a number of other companies that supply connectors to the OEM manufacturers.

Thank you all for hanging in there while we continue to make our products better. If you have an suggestions for us please do not hesitate to shoot me a PM or shoot Dawson and email. We are always willing and eager to here what our customers have to stay.

Good to see TRS step in and show why they are the preferred supplier of parts for most retrofitters

Thanks for the Post Nate.

Guys just a update Ive found a simple solution that may help extend the life, mounting the relay vertically. I feel like a idiot for not thinking of it before. Instead of laying flat where moisture just sits there if its vertical any moisture will drain out. I will add a pic of mine shortly and update my install video to reflect this.

Hey Dawson,

I've been reading through the thread, really awesome work. The evolution in your designs has been great, and I'm really digging your latest stuff. I can tell from the pictures that this is quality goods, and that you put a lot of TLC into every build and customer. I always overlooked these because I didn't think they were worth the cost since I'm getting OEM HIDs, but the increase in output has sold me. I'm down to pay for more lumens. I'll be looking to buy some 2013 retros as soon as the updated TRS/Morimoto ballast is released in a few months, so keep me posted.

One question, I was hoping to get the LS460 beam width & power in the 2013 housing, but it won't work. Will the EvoX-R still be wider than stock? Any R&D I should be aware of?

Thanks for all you do.

Thanks BMart, the redesign of the 8 pin connection will be a while but if your in no hurry then that works. Im very confident that just by mounting these relays vertically it will solve many of the moisture issues.

Yes the only projector upgrade for the 2013's is the EvoX. The LS460 is a little wider when compared to the FXR and EvoX. The only downside to the 460 is its high beams are not as broad as the Evox. The EvoX has a very uniform wide high beam along with a ton of foreground lighting, which is nice because it eliminates the need for fog lights.

Yes its wider then the OEM projectors and while the oem projectors actually have very good highs the EvoX kills them. The bulb also switches from a D3S(mercury free) to a D2S which means you can safely run 50w and gain a extra 1200 lumen per side.

Im now stocking the EvoX and added it as a traditional retrofit package. Ill update the website this weekend. Im pretty impressed with the EvoX, enough so that its going in my wife's explorer very soon.
