Does the 2013 have a harder roof? What about sunroof models?

The one we drilled into was a 2012 with a sun roof.
On 2013 I think they took the reinforced metal out of the roof and put it in the frame lol. J/K

I am confused. At which point in this thread did we go from 2013 frame reinforcement to roof reinforcement?

O I'd say about 6 pages of verbal diarrhea ago...I don't know if anyone cares anymore but it was mentioned before in the '13 pic as it looks as though there is a seam as if 2 pieces of 1/8" steel where sandwiched together. I went underneath and did a close look.

It is the old frame with another piece of 1/8" welded on all 4 sides simply reinforcing immediately at the bump stops. This piece extends no farther than 10" in overall length (5" forward & 5" back). I actually found the end of it in both directions and it doesn't extend to the next largest hole in the frame (approx 1"x1").

Frames between Raptors and the rest of the F150s are different. Since the beginning they have always been different. Adding extra metal to the bump stop area of the frame is just evolution. All models evolve over time to improve on the original design. Won't make the 10 thru 12 model any less desired because the opportunity is there to improve the frame with aftermarket support. Same frame supports that the 13 will need anyways once pushed hard enough.

Hmmmmm time will tell. I say different about the resale.

Maybe slight resale to some buyers, but overall I just don't see it. The latest models usually end up being worth more because most of the time they have less miles, more options not offered prior, and are younger in age. I don't see that being any different for the raptor since there's nothing immediately wrong with the later year models. So sure a 10 will most likely resale less then then a 13. I think potential buyers will fall into two catagories when it comes to the frame, they either A) won't care because they don't push the truck hard enough to have issues, or B) know they will push the truck hard and opt to put a bump kit/frame support regardless of year. The real factor might lay in how much support the new metal actually helps. If its only adds a slight amount of strength, is it really worth it tracking down a 13 and later?

+1. I throw the ******** flag. Cab is standard F150. Interior changes mean **** for the frame.

I doubt that. This far up the frame wouldn't be part of the engineered crash protection.

That part of the frame that the bump stop bolts to IS the crumple zone. That's why its a soft area, meant to fold up in a rear end colision.

fwjr has not been keeping up with this subject very well. About a year ago it was just plain ugly!

The million dollar question and it was brought up here with engineering was what is the specific material that was added? Who knows.

Kind of like the older cars --- some year models are worth a lot more than others. Will see if you are right because only time will tell. Just sayin I would not be a buyer based on what I have seen with my own eyes of the 12 on back. I own an 11 but it has been modified and I drive it like I want it to last when I am at the ranch.

This thread is so entertaining.

Honestly, IMO I don't think it will make a difference in resale. If people want a raptor, they will buy one. Regardless of if it has this extra width frame in that area.

I agree with 6.2 you'll find there are a lot folks that just don't do the research on them. I know a lot of folks on here did reseach before acquiring their Raptor, but I bet we have quite a few on here that didn't do the research either until the acquired their Raptor. I know I did, though I do speak to a lot of folks about my Raptor on a daily basis and they all state they would love to get one, but the majority of them know nothing about what the Raptor is capable of doing or heard about the bent frame issue or ahve done or willing to da any research on them. I really don't believe the resale value will be any different among any of the model years.
