Is there a DOT stamp or ford stamp on the light?
Remove one from the truck and take it to traffic court with you and show it to the judge. Its on them to prove its not legal. $300 is FN ridiculous? How can you "repair" the truck when they're taking $300 from you? This SCREAMS personal. I'd even file a complaint with the office.

Just stating the obvious here, but lying to a law enforcement officer in the conduct of his duties is criminal activity in every jurisdiction in the 50 states.

So here's the obvious solution: Mount all the non-DOT lighting on your truck that cranks your tractor, but retain completely legal lighting for street and highway use. Keeps you out of trouble, keeps you from even being tempted to lie, reduces the worry factor to zero, and you never come to the attention of the law enforcement community for lighting issues nor get a ticket for lighting. Simple.
