Zboater, what exactly are you trying to do?

The wires at the pass through ARE NOT 12 ga. They are much smaller because they essentially act as a signal wire for the relays which are located in the engine bay. The available wires in the engine bay are 12ga.

I.e. switch applies power to signal wire which is what you hook up under dash which tells the relay to turn on. Power out on relay is actually what you tap into under hood.

Got it! That makes sense. I was trying to extend the pass through wires to the front. But I didn't need to since my light bar had enough wire (with the help of the wire the a Rigid brackets came with) to get to where the pass through wires are.

I'm going to wire a 20" bar and some fog lights, and was wondering what gauge of wire I needed to extend those pass through wires all the way to the front of the car. It looks like 12 gauge is the ticket. Thanks!

I'm running four 130w explore 8inch lights , looks like it will be about 40amps all together , my ? Is , can I wire all 4 to the aux 1 switch with putting a larger fuse in ? I was curious if it was to many amps for the one circuit .

So I bought two pairs of the KC 8" ProSport HID lights and I followed these instructions. I computed the current draw and since the HID lights are 35w each and there are four of them, I figured 140W divided by voltage of 14.4V equals about 10 amps of current draw for all four, so I wired all four to Aux #3 and blew the fuse as soon I turned them on. What gives? Do I have a short somewhere or is it just too much current draw? Where did I go wrong on my computation of current draw?

Thanks.

That is not correct. The pass-through wires are from the outputs from the relays. The pass through wires you connect behind the glove box are the wires that carry the voltage, and amperage, to any device you hook to under the hood.

Yeah, that's not going to work. HID ballasts require more that the stated wattage, on startup they spike then they level off as everything gets up and running. You may not even be able to get by with the 15A circuit. Good luck.
Did a little checking and most 35W HIDs will draw 6-10 amps for between .25 and 2 seconds upon start up. Lots of variables of course, but best case your looking at a 24 amp spike for .25 of a second which is a pretty good load for a 10A fuse to hold. Also the smaller built-in ballasts in your light may be less efficient at start up that a full size ballast in a headlight application.

Ok. I rewired the lights and connected the outside pair to Aux 1 and the inside pair to Aux 2. No more issues. Ran them for a while and it's obvious when the current peaks because the lights flicker slightly then stabilize once they've warmed up. They look amazing and the light they give is awesome. I aimed the outside pair slightly outward and the inside pair straight ahead and they light up the path very evenly. I finished late and didn't have time for pics. I'll take a few tomorrow and post on the forum.

Thanks to everyone who helped.

If you ever need the extra switch, you would have been good with all 4 lights on Switch 1, or Switch 2, these are 30A circuits and either switch would handle it alone. The way you have them now is fine if you don't need the extra switch I'd just leave them there, you might have a time when you want to control the outside and inside sets independently. Glad you got it going. Too much light is always just enough, LOL.

OK birdman i have read all your pages here and have my own question. I just wired my new 50 in radius bar to aux 2 and was wondering if you think a 20in could be on same aux.

Secondly i have a wireless remote i am trying to wire up on the lights all i need to do is wire it parallel at the relay for AUx 2 which i found according to your first page, but i do not know which wires are what on the relay itself? Power in, Output, Ground or whatever they may be. Can you help this would be awsome to wire this remote in as well it has strobes settings!

Lastly once again you are awsome for posting this!!!! Whats formula for finding Amps? Thanks again!!!!
