Where do you mount YOUR dashcam?

Driving out tomorrow to pick my Rap up, have a brand new bracket for my BlackVue to install for the 2-hour ride home. I do not want to have to relocate it once the tape is pressed.

I do not have rain sensing wipers if that matters. I want the lens to be able to see under the swipe of the wipers for clarity but be as high on the windshield as possible for viewpoint.

So where did you mount yours and is there anything I need to look out for?

I had mine behind the rear view mirror so it was obscured and not in my line of sight.

There are several suction cup mounts that work well, the RAM model being one I've used for off roading and it works..
I have the Builtrite top dash bracket installed and it works awesome for RAM mount items..

I like the Ram mounts, had a different unit from them in my Jeep. But this is a Camera meant to be mounted (sort of) permanently.

There's a large are behind the mirror that has the F150 logo, the lens has to see past that so there's no obstructed view in the recordings. I found a spot near the headliner where the lens can see out on the driver's side but the wipers will not clean the glass right at that spot. If I move it over almost in line with driver's POV, which is good for insurance, I find a spot where it does not obstruct my view and the wipers reach high enough. But at that location, due to the curvature of the glass the camera will be pointing a bit to the side instead of directly ahead.

This is the camera I am mounting, the rear one is a breeze, the larger frontal one is the issue.




This may be my best solution for the actual recording, but I can guarantee this will block some vision for the driver. My 802a does not have the big plastic thing on the mirror like this one so maybe not so bad.


I'd just like t feel confident that where I stick it remains the best spot, moving these things is not good.

I actually just us a go-pro for now. I tried suction cup, low on the windshield, high on the windshield, different orientations. They worked, but weren’t permanent and always took up way more room than I wanted, and always obstructed my view. years ago, I bought one of the ubiquitous go-pro attachment accessory bags from Amazon. I clamped the go-pro to the driver’s “oh $h!t” handle for a while but it shook a little too much and I wasn’t happy with the aesthetics. I finally mounted it to the windshield via one of their sticky mounts; driver’s side, about the right most edge of the driver’s sun visor. it doesn’t obstruct my view and has a good forward view.

Solved my problem, figures I was over thinking it. Here's what I did, obviously not finished.

Above, shows the actual location, the lens is barely to the driver's side of center.

This picture is from roughly my eye-level, literally cannot see the camera.

The two wires (one for power to the recording unit the other for input from rear camera) were a bit unstable since I did not tape them to the sheetmetal above the headliner. SO I used a tiny zip-tie to secure them better to the existing cable.

Here's the sunvisor removed as well as the airbag exposed. Not sure I've ever torn into a new vehicle the second say I owned it before, but this is pretty minor. I have NOT connected the cable to the rear camera or converted the power over to the fuse panel yet.

Do you have to manually turn the GoPro on and off when you start the truck? I like the video quality of the GoPro, but I’d forget to turn on the camera. Also, looping could be a problem as well.

I mount my camera right at the edge of the headliner. Seems to work ok.
