Alternatively, my local ford dealer told me best thing to do (since they had no R allocations) was to search around to small town dealers who happened to get an R, don’t have a client base for it, and just need to move it off the lot. This could be another way to find the best deal out there.
This is how I landed my mostly loaded Dark Horse for almost 5k under MSRP in July. For ref: all the other dealers that had them within 200 miles of me wanted over MSRP. I tried using Autotrader and changing zips, but once I got to travel expenses and time that exceeded a day, i stopped at that distance. There was I think one at MSRP that wasn’t featured like I wanted, but mostly there. The one I bought was black, very well featured and came in at 68-is, sticker over 73. This place was the very definition of “the sticks”. The entire car lot was dirt and gravel. It had a very “shady, used car salesman” vibe. I held my nose and sat through the ordeal and took the “W”. I didn’t see a single Mustang there, but lots of trucks, and economical types. Some Mach E’s too. Not sure how these guys landed a Dark Horse, but I got to it with about 7(?) miles on the clock.

My ’17 Raptor I bought from Front Royal, VA ... not what anyone would consider a big city, about 90 minutes away from DC. Very good vibe here, and got the truck at MSRP in January, 2017.

I've had much better luck with salesmen when I've been remote. I think they understand that they have to play ball to have any shot at a sale. If you're physically in the dealership the same salesman might jerk you around. They figure you'll hate wasting the time you've invested and/or you're not savvy enough to shop around effectively. Worst case they can always come down. My strategy is to go local for my test drive and then find a deal within 500 miles that I can live with. I then call the local guy and give him one chance to match. They generally try one more jêrk around play and lose the sale, but they get the chance.

Hit up Russell @ Kunis Ford in Antioch Illinois, mention his customer that bought a Avalanche Grey Raptor V6 in N.E. Kansas last year. Russell is one of their sales managers and his G.M. "Jesse" is a really good dude, they treated us with :driver: 100% transparency, they all were totally upfront and honest, both in the purchase of our 2023 Raptor EcoBoost w/ 37 Performance Package, as well as in their finance department, we went with the Ford Extended Warranty and the Ford Wheel and Tire Protection.

They will give you the honest scoop on the Raptor R market and they have two (2) other Ford stores to draw inventory from or they may have an extra allocation among all of their stores to build you a Raptor V6 or a Raptor R. I missed ordering a Super Snake from Russell by one (1) "frigging" day, so I settled for a 2025 GTD allocation instead. Lol. :peace:

Yeh, after speaking with a few today, and just based off of all my dealings with dealerships...I'll borrow a line from the great movie Remember the Titans "Attitude reflects Leadership". If the dealership management understands the times and how to move cars, then usually the sales people are pretty chill as well.

Yeah, something about shopping for an R really triggered me. I talked to dozens of dealers who all had a "my shit doesn't stink" attitude, and acted as if they were doing me a favor by selling me one for $20k+ ADM. You'd think these clowns did the R&D and built the Raptor right at their dealership. They are simply the middle man in an industry that has shown a salesman isn't necessary. As a matter of fact, dealerships/salespeople are the primary reason people dread purchasing a car. Dealerships are full of talentless POS's that barely have the qualifications or work ethic to flip burgers.

There's something about being talked down to by a high school drop out who financed his Ford Fiesta at 29.99% APR when you're in the market to plop down $115K cash for a truck. It really fukks with my fragile little ego.

At the end of the day, it's all supply and demand. Since people are willing to pay that much for them, can't really blame the dealers for feeling entitled to a ridiculous ADM. This will stop only when the consumer decides they aren't playing that game. Until then, nothing you can really do.

Bingo! A dealer is a business and any business (unless they are morons) will make whatever the market will bear. Some succeed and prosper while others play the game too long and lose. With a popular, premium vehicle like a Raptor R, they are pretty much assured of selling at MSRP and so the risk to wait for a larger ADM is more easily justified. As long as there are buyers with huge egos, and deep pockets that are willing to overpay in order to gain the envy of others, this situation will continue. The world has been like that since the first person had something rare that another person wanted. It’s just the way it is, has been, and will continue to be.

I completely agree! It's insane when some of these guys stop by my place and see my goat harem and they think that by throwing cash at me that I will let them party with my girls! I maintain my standards, so my girls always know I am a classy guy!!!! :ehcapt:

I find all these Raptor R at MSRP post interesting reading. I get it people want a deal but the bottom line is the Raptor R is Ford flagship Raptor with the most powerful engine you can get in a truck at this time. They meaning Ford or there dealerships are under no obligation to sell you me or anyone there top dog truck are the lowest price possible. To think you are entitled to this high end truck ar MSRP is quite naive to say the least. They are in the business of maximizing as much profit as possible off the speciality truck. You can call them greddy shady or whatever they do not give a **** about any of us. You don't buy it someone else will. If you manage to land one ar MSRP your lucky and good for you.

When I was looking to get one I was well prepared to pay the markup thats how it is on specialty vehicles and many other hot cars and trucks. This is the world we live in now nothing is getting cheaper.
