I have always tried to run the best oil and filter that exists. Never had a problem related to oil and never will. With the outstanding oil and filtration products that are availaible it just does not make sense.

I've been browsing around bobistheoilguy.com lately and a LOT of guys seem to really like the Motorcraft stuff if you aren't doing extended changes. Here in Canada Petro-Canada oils are very high quality, seem to really be designed for our climate as the pour points are excellent.

Mobil 1 is great stuff, but i personally like full synthetic lucas oil. Last oil change I noticed a solid 2mpg pick up and have maintained that since. Probably 1500 miles ago.

I buy whatever Synthetic happens to be on sale and run a Wix filter. Maintaing proper oil change intervals is far more important that the brand of oil that you use....everything else is marketing.

Through Living Social I can get a 3 oil change package for $49 at Pennzoil 10 Minute Oil Change, but they use Shell conventional oil. I'm thinking to grab this deal to just flush the oil in my 3 week old Raptor as I have just over 500 miles now. I'll get my first dealership oil change at 3,000 miles. Is there any reason NOT to use conventional oil? TIA

^ yeah, it sucks.Synthetic isn't so much about longer changes as it is better lubrication, mpg, wear...

5w30 mobil 1 full synthetic. The 5w20 is to thin once its hot for hard use, espically in florida heat

I've run Mobil 1 and Royal Purple in my current truck. Fully synthetic since 5,000 miles. I've got 62,000 on it and now and just switched to the Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-30 at 60,000 miles. It says it's good for 15,000 miles, but I plan on changing it at 10,000 miles.

Times change and technology advances; 5W- is no longer the best, it is now 0W- :)
Gets to all the critical little parts quicker!

Doesn't "the best" depend on engine specifics? Not all are built alike. I don't know, but that's what I've come to believe. Luckily, I live in a relatively warm state so I will be sticking to manufacturer recommended weights.

Ehh im running amsoil now (1st change was motocraft), and using a canton mecca spin on oil filter (no bypass, better filtration).

Have sent off the motocraft oil sample to blackstone, and plan on running the amsoil/canton mecca stuff for a few changes to see the test results as well.
