Dust alone will do it, seen it many times.
Partially why I switched back to stock filter box. Carry a few extra filters and swap them out,
If your not careful it will tear the rubber boots like the afe has. Then instant limp mode
I wish I could put the factory box on but I have the Roush setup. Is there anything preventive I can do to avoid this besides constantly checking it when off-roading? I was thinking about buying one of those dust socks that go over it but I'm not sure how well they work. I know what you mean about the boots. Mine didn't tear but the filter fell off on me before but luckily I caught it pretty quick because I pulled over to see what the hell was rattling around under the hood.
Before and after.
Buy a pre filter sock it will definately keep your filter clean longer. I got bad pollen this year and when your opened the hood of the truck the prefilter sock was basically yellow from pollen. If i hadnt had the cover it would have been on my filter. So i just clean the pre filter sock
What did you just spray it down with a powerwasher?
I find simple green and a standard garden hose work well.Cold motor, simple green, plastic over the ecu, alternator, MAF, and battery. Spray away. Use common sense.
