Upgrading stock OEM trans cooler

Yup, mine was getting up to around that area (right at the yellow) if I got stuck in slow moving traffic up serious Colorado mountain highways. It'll be a little while before I know for sure since I don't have one of those trips soon, but it sure can't hurt. I did the AFE pan as well though, so I won't be able to report on JUST the cooler.

My engine temp has been totally solid, just the tranny starts getting up there.

Yeah same here. Engine temp is always great. Just trans when climbing.

Well, the cooler itself was so simple that it seems like it'll be worth it. It's definitely larger and I don't see any cons to it. Will it totally solve it? I can't say, but it will help - and at high temps a little helps a lot.

I installed the Saudi cooler from RPG last weekend and I can't tell any difference during normal highway driving. Temp stays around 194 @ 75 mph. I suspect it may shine more while towing. Still one of my favorite MODs. It just feels like my Raptor is now configured to the OEM's max potential.

Thanks for the feedback. Mine's in hand and going in soon along with a PML pan.

My trans runs hotter than yours, by the way. Probably because of the Whipple HE. Hopefully this cooler and the extra fluid will drop the temps back down a bit.

Well it's been over 3000 miles since I did the larger Ford tranny cooler and I can say it works great considering the price ($150 @ RPG).

811+ miles off-road in July from Salt Lake City, UT to Carson City, UT with temps pretty much above 100° most of the time and the transmission temp pretty much stayed at 195° to 199°. At idle it would often drop to 182° with the engine coolant fans at high speed in 100+ temps.

Going 3-10 miles up mountain passes temps never went above 208°! Many others were reporting temps of 230+ on the same uphill climbs.

I am very happy with this super easy upgrade.

Thanks to RPG for finally finding the larger OEM cooler. 5 min install. I took the advice of another poster and measured how much fluid the old cooler took and added that amount as I installed. About 2-3 ounces I guess.

I also included a pic of the original fluid and fresh. I was shocked to see it but apparently brown is normal.

The oil pics didn't go through. The transmission fluid is what came in the truck from Ford. I was quite alarmed when I saw it. It doesn't smell at all. Did a bunch of googl'ing and lots of concensus that the Ford fluild turns brown very early and not to worry.
