I guess he's not up for 3.0's on Raptors or long travel since it wasn't designed that way as well....

To the OP. There are some towing threads on here that should help. No one condones gross negligence when towing or overloading your TV. However, you may be able to extract some more capacity with a few of the mods mentioned in those threads.

Agreeing with Yukon joe above, nobody condones overloading, which I don't think the OP is trying to do, more so trying to make his truck handle that "at the limit" weight better, which can be done safely with the products that have been mentioned.

Just remember: All additional weight (mods/upgrades/etc) subtract from your 1000lbs payload capacity. This 1000lbs covers any weight in/on your truck that was not from the factory, including passengers, the tongue weight of your trailer (10% of trailer weight for most trailers), luggage, electronics, etc, etc. So if you weigh 300lbs then you can only realistically tow 7000lbs. You can not tow at full capacity with more than one person on the truck (unless you find 2 really skinny 100lbs people). Also if you add 200lbs of mods (SC, new amps, bump stops, lights) you must subtract this from your payload capacity.

Please don't overload your tow rig, while it may be able to "handle it" you significantly increase the risk of you doing harm to other road users. Saying I can throw $500 a day at this issue is just arrogant and antisocial, if there was a real investigation into a death caused by your vehicle and this post was discovered on your account your defence would be destroyed beyond repair.

Please have respect for other road users when towing, not just while driving but when loading and spec'ing out your rig.

Last of all the raptor is a beauty to tow with up to its limits, plenty of power and built in TBC works perfectly.

I see this topic a lot and the the responses can be amusing. For a little perspective...

I once owned a F150 with an inline 6, 305 gears, and a 3-speed manual w/overdrive tranny running on 33 inch meats. I believe it also had an insanely small fuel tank...something like 12 or 15 gallons and rear drum brakes. With the gearing it couldn't get out of its own way and in hindsight was a rolling road block. I couldn't take long trips without a few Jerry cans of fuel in the back.

I regularly towed a 5K boat with this truck, once from Kalifornia to North Dakota in the dead of winter with a motorcycle and all my tools in the bed.

Trust me when I tell you that towing an 8K lb load with the Raptor wouldn't scare me even slightly. Load ratings largely come from one place...product liability and there is often very little science that goes into it.

Sure...make sensible towing upgrades where practical and understand the basic laws of physics while driving but the truck isn't going to fall off the road because its a Raptor. This truck is light years better at towing than trucks of 20-30 years ago that had better tow ratings.

I have a 29ft bumper pull that weighs in at 8200 loaded. The Screw pulls it beautifully but with that being said I wouldn't push it much past that.

I'm not sure about your financial situation but there are plenty of good reliable cheap tow rigs out there. Get yourself an early well cared for Duramax (sorry I was raised a GM guy) to use for towing and keep your toy.

Ron Riggs,
In contrast to Sierra13 I would stay away from anything GM! (The ISUZU built Duramax is an exception) I've had two Dodges...a 98.5 2500 HD, (basically a 3500 SRW), and more recently a 2004.5 HO 3500. Both have the 5.9, 24 valve engine and pull like no tomorrow...and 22 mpg empty around town. You can get the Cummins in the bigger Fords...F550, 650, 750; not sure about the F450.
However the in house 6.7 Powerstroke is a beast itself...why look anywhere else? If Ford had had the Cummins I never would have had the Dodges....
OK...as above you need to think not only go, but stop...the brakes, trannys, differentials, driveshafts, transfer cases, frames of the 350+ trucks are designed to SAFELY pull the loads all day long. You will NEVER be able to make a Raptor into a a truck that can do what the heavier trucks do....not without losing all that makes it a Raptor...
Eddie
ps I could tell you a horror story about pulling a 1955 Dodge PowerWagon an a bumper pull two axle trailer from Michigan to Iowa and back...using a 96 Eddie Bauer Bronco to pull it....hence the 98.5 Cummins!

Towing with the 6.2 raptor

So I had to post here because before I purchased the raptor I was concerned with towing 9000ish pounds with it. I was unable to find any legit proof on the forums to justify the purchase but here's the story. I Was going to get an f250 but wanted the raptor for the off road fun. Besides the raptor being set up for the off road better then f250 they are cheaper to maintain. So I got one. I pulled a 8000 pound bumper pull trailer from Oklahoma to Colorado. On the flats the truck just fine and on the uphill sections the truck performed Very well. I travel the country and have no reason to worry about it. Keep in mind that I have all my crap with me also which I would put at over 9000 pounds. Yes the factory says 8000 and yes it worked anyway. Just my input but please dont blame me if you try and fail. Or if you try 12000 lbs and fail or if your drive train has had enough. Or something. It's just the info I wish I had during my purchasing time. If you have questions contact me but I'm not interested in talking to anyone who may want to argue against something I did. Thanks and may the raptor be with you.
