Tandem axle I'm assuming? Trailer brakes?

3500# tandem axle torsion
electric brakes
Slanted V nose front

I haven't researched these much, but they seem like they'd do a good job for handling some additional weight and not limit the suspension travel.

This is showing as "not available".

Anyone have experience with Roadmaster Active suspension?

The Raptor is a great towpig. I've towed my 08 Mustang (with gear) on an open trailer that puts the total weight right around 6,000lbs. I've been from South Jersey to Myrtle Beach VA (Mustang Week) and back.. along with several other shorter trips. Just make sure the trailer is loaded correctly, your gear is in good shape, use a weight distribution hitch, and take your time..

I avg between 11.5 - 12.5 mpg.

OK, I get that towing ~ 6,000#s won't be an issue for the truck (assuming I do things "right"), but I was looking at the GCWR of this truck and it's 12,500#'s.

Am I doing the following math right?

a 6,000# trailer with a 600# tongue weight + the truck weight puts us at 12,600#'s. My understanding is tongue weight is payload weight and has to be added to GCWR.

This means I can't be in the vehicle or have any cargo and stay legal?

Looking at it another way by ignoring GCWR, with a 600# tongue weight I could only have 400#'s of persons and cargo to stay within the 980# payload rating.

I am going to try to stay around 5500# which I thik will give me just enough leway for me to be in the truck :)

do I have this right?

Good thing I didn't really buy this to tow with, I'd be bummed. It's pretty limited from a specification standpoint. I understand OP have exceed towing specs since the dawn of time. Just making sure I know what I am getting into here.

Thanks

Yes, you have that right. The tongue weight gets subtracted from the carrying capacity (1053 lbs. on my screw) and the resulting number is how much other gear/people you can have in the truck. It gets eaten up pretty fast. Get a WDH and try to load all your gear in the trailer when towing it. The carrying capacity is the biggest limiting factor when towing with a Raptor.

Are you sure about adding the tongue weight when calculating GCWR? I understand that it should be added for payload figures, but it seems that adding it to GCWR is redundant unless you subtract the tongue weight from the weight of the trailer.

You maybe right and it would make the most sense. The manual is what has got me confused. Tongue weight definitly counts as payload and that makes sense. The manual says GCWR is trailer + payload + GVW.

Another source: "Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) is the maximum number that the tow vehicle GVW plus towed vehicle GVW (or GTW) should never exceed."

I guess the tell tale is does the 600# tongue weight remove 600#'s from the trailer weight?

Thanks all
