Towing with my 2018 Raptor

Just remember a weight distribution hitch will not work with surge brakes. So you brakes will have to be electric. So washey washey washey if you will be dipping it in salt.

Actually electric over hydraulic is the way to go on a boat. There should also be a E/H setting when setting up the trailer in the towing screen, there was on my Platinum Expedition.

As mentioned, and reverse of what you mention, don't think that just because the truck is rated to 8,000 lbs that your hitch can handle it. ;)

Not sure what that means, the truck is rated at 8000/800 while the factory receiver is rated higher at 11,200/1100. The truck is the limiting factor, not the receiver.

It means just because the hitch, with a WDH, is rated to 11,000 lbs, it doesn’t mean the Raptor can pull that much weight. And the factory rating of 11,000 lbs is only when using a WDH - otherwise, 5,000 lbs.

Someone above mentions that they’re towing an 8,000 lb boat without a WDH thus being 3,000 lbs over the hitch rating, and if setup properly, 300 lbs over the tongue rating. Not safe!

The actual receiver is rated at 11.2K, meaning that the receiver is rated to handle more than the truck. It's likely the same receiver used on all F150s, some of which are rated up to 11k lbs.

But on the Gen2 SCREW, 8000 is the max recommended towing, and only when using WD.

Ugg... I understand the Raptor is rated to 8,000 with a WDH. I get it... I understand that... I'm with you.

However, the stock Class III hitch IS NOT rated to pull an 8,000 lb trailer WITHOUT a WDH. That's all I'm trying to say.

Biggest issue I had with the Gen 2 towing this old Warlock with twin big blocks over past trucks (Gen1, H1 & Duallies) was I was using the same old drop hitch which with the rear sage on these Gen 2's was causing to much weight on the front trailer tires & tongue. I noticed a little sway in cross winds and at higher freeway speeds. Got a new higher hitch and was good to go. I've towed this boat with so many different trucks over the years I just assumed I'd be ok, rookie moment. Ask me how I know that these trucks have sway control! Power is not a problem. With an 8,000lb load you would want the tongue weight to be around 10 percent, Which is 800 lbs. Factor in driver, fuel, and essentially anything added to the truck and you are at max payload rating. Add another person or gear and you are over. Does anyone have any advice for this issue?

I’m cutting it close with boat I bought. Boat weighs 4900, engines are 490 x 2, trailer 1300. Looking at 7300 with no gas. Half tank of fuel and I’m around 7750. I’m hoping with the HD leaf springs and SVC hydraulic bump stops I should be OK. If I feel truck sux trailering the boat, I’ll trade her in but dont want to do that. I love that truck!!!
