Keep this thread going for another year and a half so we can all look back on it and laugh at the chuckleheads who said, "EcoBoost sucks, V6 sounds ******, there's nothing like a V8, our trucks will hold their value, I'm not buying one, etc., etc." :mwah1:

And "don't buy first year models" is hindsight advice you should give to all the 2010 Raptor buyers who were the ones who made your Raptor ownership possible. :baby:

Yep!!!

Sounds like the Corvette forum in here whenever there's a change.

There is literally a guy in another thread that said the new 2017 being faster is going to be too dangerous, and that the current truck is fast enough.

Avoiding the first year model is overblown. The current gen F150 will have already been out for awhile. This new engine has been running around in the Daytona prototypes pretty successfully. Ford learned a lot from the first gen raptor and all of that knowledge is flowing into the new truck.

Even if I decide to move to Gen2, I wouldn't get the first year because rumor is Ford will be announcing a new engine for 2018. Yes a rumor but heard it from an engineer who works at Ford and since mine won't be paid off until 2018, it works out perfect. And what brought MMD out of the woodwork, just passing by to throw more BS into a few threads and move on to the jeep forums? Lol

Rumor is seconded, my uncle races for ford. Told me to hold off until 2018. They are going to have a "gt" version that will be balls to the walls with the engine. The reason this one is the way it is, is to play the epa average game the law now requires out of them. I got 2 2013s now and plan on keeping at least one until 2018 and get a real raptor.

At the end of the day car manufacturers put out big V-8 engines or bigger in their top of the line vehicles. It doesn't matter what brand whether Japanese, German, American, or other foreign luxury brands. A V-6 can not and will not run with a beefed up V-8 or anything bigger then that. Fuel economy is a joke, as already stated. If you got an issue buy a Prius and take your money that you save and support global warming. It's ridiculous that people still try to argue about this subject. You don't see Audi, Porsche, or any other racing department trying to put an undersized engine in one of their race cars. Yes they may offer them in their base models, but not for a top of the line vehicle. Much less trying to put a V-6 in a off road vehicle. Keep the 6.2 put a whipple sc with headers and a louder exhaust (to really drive the global warming crowd nuts) and you will have a beast that no eco boast is touching.

I've been wanting to make a similar comment for a while but never bothered because there's too many guys who are too susceptible to the EB marketing hype to listen.

There's only one reason Ford is putting the 3.5 in the Raptor. It's the same reason they put the 5.4 in it back in 2010. It's because it's what they will have readily available at the time. And, in this case, the only reason they are even developing the engine in the first place is because of Le Mans class rules.

It's absolutely astoundingly ignorant for people to think this is the best engine for the job. Haven't people been claiming the death of the V8 is imminent for almost 50 years now? Manufacturers continue to universally disagree. From Audi to Porsche to Ferrari to Nissan and Toyota, they've all got one.

The new truck is very cool and I want one. Just not with a V6 in it. Why? Because it's boring. Because it sounds like crap. And because I prefer raw grunt to boost lag.

I'm glad there will be plenty of people lining up to get one, though. The more Raptors that sell the more likely Ford is to continue to build them and the more robust the aftermarket will be. So go get 'em, boys. Just don't be surprised when Ford finally announces they're putting a real engine in the truck.

Funny you mention Audi and Porsche and racing departments...

In 2011 Audi won Le Mans with a 3.7L V6.
In 2012 Audi won Le Mans with a 3.7L V6.
In 2013 Audi won Le Mans with a 3.7L V6.
In 2014 Audi won Le Mans with a 4.0L V6.
This year, however, Porsche changed things up and won Le Mans with a 2.0L V4.

Haha hide behind a sofa for what? Because Audi won a car race? Last time I checked the Raptor is not a car. By the way the R8 isn't running no V6. That was my point and just like Porsche isn't running no V6 in their top of line Cayenne or Panamera. Check to see what BMW runs in their M packages, or Mercedes in their AMG. Should I go on? Lexus does the same thing and I could list other luxury vehicles that have big engines. Yea Audi and Porsche can run those engines in the base models of their SUVS, but does anybody walk away impressed? No because a V6 cannot compare to what a V8 does for that same vehicle. You know good and well those engines are not going to get a 5-6500 lb vehicle to move the way a V8 can. I had one of those V6's and I still only got 16 mpg and it was a boring ride!!!

The Raptor proved to America that people would rather have a V8, and the polls on this forum show the same thing. You think it was a just out of the blue that GMC and Chevrolet decided to implement the 6.2 V8 to their highest end SUV's and Trucks? After they finally re-established themselves after the recession and actually had the funding to do so they moved in that direction after the Raptor had been booming. I'm not trying to knock the Raptor, or Ford because I love and have enjoyed both my Raptors. but I'm tired of everybody acting like Ford is just going to slap a V6 in the Raptor and its going to be a monster. No other manufacturers have pulled that off because it's a very difficult task. There's a reason why V8's have stood the test of time, and they will continue because the cost of having bad fuel economy is worth what you get. @Truckzor brought up a very good point that the ecoboost engine will probably become quickly dropped just like when the 5.4 was done away with for just the 6.2 option.
