IMHO ask yourself these questions

Can I afford this? You said you are making decent money so it sounds like it.
Will I be happy without the Raptor? Sounds like you know this answer.
What is worrying me most? Asset allocation??? PAY yourself first!!! Just redistribute where some of your discretionary spending is going. Why does it have to be one or the other??
Is it a impulse control issue? Slow down on the modding increase what you are saving, it's all about balancing responsibility and fun.
If repairs are a concern budget for it. Estimate your repairs, average them and get a aftermarket warranty. That way its not all out of pocket.

If you have to chose between family, work, bills...etc thats one thing. But your concerns sound like worry over unavoidable issues while having fun. Excepting where your money goes but that is a learned skill. Start saving now while you have fun don't sacrifice one for the other. Life is meant to be lived, not existed in.

If you can get positive equity out, do it. Higher mileage Gen ones stills have some value but I don't believe for long once Gen twos really hit the lots. I just traded my '11 screw with 70k+ miles on a Tundra TRD Pro (no flames, lol) and took a nice chunk of cash out and applied the rest down. I was surprised how much the trade was still worth. I've run across several guys going from Raptor to TRD Pro interestingly enough.
