The BFG have a 3ply but then again have torn those -- also forgot to mention the Nitto TG's---2 sets of those and those sidewalls were bullet proof....

The General Red Letters are as tough as they come but if you mean the AT2 those are 2ply and are great on road. It is the sidewall that worries me esp on a truck where the spare is a pia to get unless you have the bed rack for them.

Good read---Tough Tires.. The Silent Armor has this type of 90 degree application of sidewall plies. I am going to suck it up and pay for the MTR's for the jeep.

Hey Big J I'm running 37x12.517r. I believe it's the R model. I ordered them from the local garage that does all my work for our company vehicles. There wasn't any issues at the time but that was 3 or 4 months ago.

The set in question (4 tires) are 35"ers and at about 1/2 (or better) life left, show no signs of chunking or cracking, and have had the red letters turned in since week one (no fading). They're currently on my truck, and have religiously been rotated every 6k miles.

Here's my thinking: I've got a LOT of road driving to do over the next several months. It wouldn't hurt my feelings to sell these tires on to someone who can use them, and pick up a new lighter quieter smoother set of either OEM BFGs or go with a set of Duratracs, or similar road friendly all terrain.

Thoughts? Is there a market for used Red Letters in this condition? Approximate value?

Thanks ya'll.

FWIW, the Toyo A/T II's are awesome. I absolutely love them. They're a little more aggressive than the old A/T's but are still very road friendly. Same basic tread pattern, slightly more spaces out and a little deeper. Main difference is they have the addition of small side lugs. All in all an excellent tire. I've been really happy with them.

After looking into this a lot today, (I don't mean to rekindle an old debate) but the S and R in the model numbers refer to the speed rating; R = 106mph and S = 112mph.

If the Raptor comes with the R's, I think its a coincidence that R speed rating and R for "Raptor" would seem to line up. I don't think R means Raptor.

JMHO.

I believe it's actually the opposite. I may be wrong but the way I remember is R is for Regular and S is for Special. S is the stock Raptor tire and is a softer compound.

Also, you're coming to TRR right? If so we can bring tires out and save you shipping. Or at the very least, you can drive my truck and see if you like em.

Ironically Boss, the Wrangler MT-R's are the only ones that I've blown out sidewalls on. I was really disappointed in the set I had. Loud on the pavement, lugs would clean OK in the thick stuff but they didn't seem to dig very well, and they wear fast.

But they do look good...

The R and S definitely stand for the speed rating, Maxx. Here's just one example of about half a dozen I ran across while looking

Nah, no TRR for me this year unfortunately. Responsibilities and obligations, and all that crap

I have no first hand experience with the MTRs but a coworker has them on his Taco and based on his comments I think he'd agree with Madcow.

Falken WildPeaks man... seriously.

I've had them on the last 4 runs (one of them being the Land Rush) and you wouldn't BELIEVE how well they've held up to off road abuse. No flats, no leaks, no "chunks" coming off the tread. I spin my tires pretty much every chance I get, and my BFGs were destroyed after ONE run with that type of driving. The grabbers also wore out fairly quickly, and weren't the best road tire.

These Wild Peaks are SILENT on the road (as quiet as stock BFG's or maybe even quieter) and they still have killer off road performance. I really can't say enough about them. The only thing I don't like, is that they don't "look" like an aggressive tire... which to some people turns them off. I don't care as much about the look, considering how happy I am with the all around performance.

I took a picture JUST NOW... so you could see the condition after multiple off road runs, and about 4,000 miles total (mixed on and off). Keep in mind, we just did the Baja trip a few weeks ago, and these are the REAR tires after 3 days of off road abuse, as well as 3 other runs, one of which being the Land Rush 1000:

You don't have to sacrifice comfort to still have a GREAT off road tire, with impressive durability. They come in 35x17, and 37x17 as well...

I've got about 15,000 miles on my wildpeaks. I'll get a pic later today. but they look perfect as well.

TONS of gravel road high speed stuff. and im always spinning the rears around corners lol.

I keep suggesting them in every damn tire thread. and its for a reason.

So glad Blue can back me up, as he actually has a raptor to test them on. and i only have a light weight ranger.

and they're cheaper than most AT's
and far better imo.

by the way, they look far more agressive in person, than they do in pictures. Personally, I think they look pretty damn agressive for an all terrain, compared to other all terrains.

Gotcha, maybe that's just how my mind tried to remember it or something? Idk, anyways my suggestion still stands, the Toyo's are awesome tires with plenty of grip and they look great too.

I was honestly a bit skeptical at first, because nobody I knew had them... but I'm so happy with them, I'll definitely replace them with the same down the road, maybe the 37" version...

Only $253 for the 35's... such a great price for this tire!!! "S" rated, too...
