First of all comparing the gen 1 and 2 Raptors to the Boss and GT350 doesn't hold water. If you had a Boss and traded it in for a GT350 with an EcoBoost motor and told us how much better the twin turbo V6 is than the old V8 you might have an argument.

Second, I agree the gen 2 Raptor will be an improvement over the gen 1. I think that the engine and new 4wd system will be the question marks. That being said, the only reason I bought Raptors was for the 6.2 and the off-road mode. Changing those 2 things out makes me question a new one.

I'll still be buying one but not with any intention of building an off-road beast. Not with an EB, "terrain management system" and 10 speed transmission. I'd rather buy a new 2wd XL with a 5.0

I didn't know that you would require a minutely detailed comparison for it to be valid in your eyes. My apologies lol. My example was from one gen to another.

I'm not defensive about anything, bro. I'm just voicing my disappointment with the new engine. I'm hopeful that Ford will fix it and when they do I will likely buy the new truck. I've widely praised the new truck overall and pointed out ages ago that it has a lot of the upgrades that were developed right here.

I am growing tired of your nonsensical arguments, though. Not sure what your Boss 302 analogy had to do with anything. The Boss 302 was always an ugly car. Frankly, I never understood why anyone would buy one when the GT500 was available (couldn't afford one?). Of course the new GT350 is better than the ugly and under powered Boss 302.

I can't imagine a lot of '13 & '14 GT500 owners are rushing out to trade in on one, though. I certainly wouldn't.

Boss 302 has better handling than the GT500. Here's something I found from a guy that has both:

"Crazy, I have both vehicles too with virtually the same mods. The GT500 makes ~600 rwhp/rwtq compared to the Boss at ~400/360 but my lap times are virtually identical between the cars on several tracks. They just get there in different ways. One's a sledgehammer and the other a scalpel."

Also keep in mind, some people prefer naturally aspirated over forced induction. In fact, I think I've heard that quite bit from people on this very forum.

Your comparison sucks. The new GT350 has one of the best V8s ever. Of course it's better than the previous gen. If Ford put the regular old 6.2 in the gen 2 no one would be arguing about whether or not the gen 2 is better. It's all about the engine. The perception V6<V8. Would you have traded the Boss in for a GT350 with a V6?

I just noticed that. Randy here is trying to get everyone to understand how much better gen 2 is because his gen 2 GT350 is better than his Boss

The GT500 was a one trick pony. Great at the drags, not so much for a road course. The B302 is a well balanced car and the Laguna Seca model is likely the best handling car ever made with a stick axle. But I didn't get all out of shape when the S550 chassis came out with independent suspension and better handling. In 5-10 years the same thing will happen to my GT350, it'll be less of an athlete than it is now. Constant performance advancement is great for all of us.

It's interesting, this argument happens in the Mustang boards where the GT500 guys discount the B302 in the same way Gen I guys discount the 3.5. They're both good, they just offer performance in different ways.

Thankfully I'm not in the market for a second one until at least the 2018 model year. I'll see what everyone thinks of the 2017, what the v6 sounds like and by then we should know if there will be a v8 option for 2018. I'm also hoping to find out if there really will be a new Bronco to but these Wranglers to rest! Then we'll go from there. See ya at an outing after you get one...

The new Bronco wont even be a contender against the Wrangler unless it has the following:

  • Removable top
  • Body on frame
  • Solid axles for easy and cost effective modification - lifting IFS/IRS vehicles is expensive and difficult compared to solid axles.
  • Manual transmission - The Wrangler is one of the only SUV still in production that I can think of that offers a manual transmission.

Just my $0.02

The main reason I don't plan on owning one is because It's UGLY as HELL. The body lines are to straight for me. What brought me to the Raptor was the overall look of it. Being the biggest thing on the road, now the new one looks just like a F-150 with a different grille. Oh another reason is now, other companies are trying to build a truck to make it look the same. Just the eye test between the Raptor and the Titan, they kind of look the same to me. I'll keep my out dated Gen 1.

Either way, I'll own a new Bronco if they make it. It's Great Grandfather is in my garage right now, he's lonely.
