TFL: Gen 3 + GT500 V8 is confirmed

Pfft V8, I have inside information Ford is going to stay with the EcoBoost and drop the 647hp GT spec engine in.

Now that’s an interesting idea we have heard before through the rumor mill. The ‘21 GT is supposedly 660HP and 550TQ. Would this also get Powerboost to stir the pot lol. So with the Raptors weight savings, this would be on par with the TRX I would imagine. An Ford could stay true to the Raptor and the rest of its ecoboost truck line. Perform better with an Ecoboost to a Hellcat V8, would be something of a smack down laid into RAM. Using a 5.2 Predator is just high horsepower V8 vs V8 and both will have low range.

I need to pull up a chair now lol

Now everyone is seeing the light.

Why go backwards and drop in a V8 with a blower when you already have the same engine that makes more power and keep a close fuel range to what the truck has now? Which would explain the ever so slightly different exhaust note of the test mule.

Between weight and rear end gears I think the Raptor would stomp it. Not sure why RAM went 3.55's. Especially with a slightly larger tire.

I thought you guys didn't want more power and satisfied with the current 450? I think many echoed the idea that over that was not useful? But, here are the folks that are trying to figure out how to get factory 710hp out of the 3.5 TT.

Im content with 450, however the mentality of the general public would see it as a failure if it didn’t have the same HP as the TRX, because no one understands how weight and power work together.

I’m thinking it will be a slightly mellowed HP/TQ rating from the Ford GT. With that, Ford can say “Look how much faster we are with less HP, we have a further range, we can run on 87 octane all day, etc” There’s more to be said with that than going full hillbilly and just putting in the highest HP engine you make just so it looks good on paper to the general public.

Everyone cried and ******* when Ford stubbornly refused to put a V8 in the Gen 2. Now the TRX comes along and is about to deliver an industry-leading bitch slap to Ford in a segment they invented and you all are suddenly all about the V6. You are not going to get the torque or the driving characteristics you need in a big fat domestic pickup truck if you keep boosting the 3.5 higher and higher to get 'better' numbers for the spec sheet. Notice that the GT has 130+ horsepower over the 3.5 in the Raptor but the torque is much closer? They selected the turbo for the Raptor engine carefully so the impellers would be a certain size to give low end grunt and responsiveness, NOT to get maximum numbers for the spec sheet. The housings are pretty well optimized for the intended purpose but there is a physical limit to how much air they can move. There is basically no where to go with the 3.5L V6 given their constraints (87 octane capability for one) and intended use in a heavy pickup truck. If you want to hang with the TRX, you need to find a forced induction V8 to do it.

I just read two different articles in Automotive News which is a very reputable source in the automotive industry. The first article discusses the new Ram TRX and mentions that they have a source inside Ford(they don't give their name) that is telling them that they will be offering the GT500 motor in the upcoming Raptor. The second article I read gives the timeline for the new Raptor and they state it as a late 2021 model. Just thought I would share...

I would bet gas mileage is the reason. Sure they could reconfigure the transmission for more overdrive, but cheaper to install 3.55 rear gears....plus they should be stronger.

Good point. It's already gonna be surprising if it's rated at more than single digit in the city.
