The 7.3L Godzilla with a Whipple makes more sense. The DOHC 5.2 S/C will take some cam work to make a decent truck engine. I would be willing to bet that you could buy 2-3 of the 7.3's for the cost of one 5.2. The torque on the 7.3 would be incredible.

Very predictable, unexciting. These aren't drag trucks, as another poster mentioned, without real travel ~24" the 700+ hp is just useless off road. Yes it will look badass, sound badass, and be overall badass, but I'll still take my TT V-6 for range and overall function. Will be good trucks for the guys who stick them in the garage and only drive it to break it every once in awhile.

I predict a $50K premium on the "special edition" V8 models. I had a hard enough time justifying $66,500 plus tax for my 2020 Scab. No way I'm spending $100K+ on a V8 Raptor.

50k premium + 25k ADM

The V8 would be nice but if this is indeed a limited production option, the effort and cost to obtain one wouldn't be worth it for me. I'd rather go power boost, especially if it has the electric panel in the bed and the V8 doesn't. It would be nice to load up my compact husky compressor in the bed and air up each tire in a few seconds.

I doubt they'll just take the same engine without modification and drop it into the Raptor. I'm sure it would be tuned to better fit the requirements of an off-road truck.

I'm most interested to see how the cooling system on both the TRX and the 5.2 Raptor is going to cope with hard runs in desert heat.

nah

the TQ on a powerboost w/ a massaged version of the 3.5 HO (maybe bigger snails & more aggressive cam profile, forged guts) mated to a more powerful electric motor than what we’ve seen in the Aviator & I’m sure it’ll be plenty stout in stock trim- if the aviator is @ 494/630 I expect the Raptor w/ beefier HO 3.5 will be something like 550hp/700tq & Id imagine that if TFL truck is correct on this intel, the V8 “super raptor” I’m guessing will be like 750hp/7-800tq -

BUT what will be interesting to see a) how much power you could get from tune only on both powerboost & 5.2 SC’d & which version responds better to just a tune, & b) if the Raptor continues on w/ a more instant responding trick “awd” transfer case + the electric power plant I’m wondering if it’ll translate to a more Responsive & quicker acting/more finely tuned traction control/AWD system.....typically hybrid/electric vehicle can dial these systems in to be much more sophisticated than gas only....particularly compared to pure brute force like a blown V8

Lastly- EV and/of Hybrid TQ ratings typically translate to bigger performance on the street all else being equal as the curve is flatter & hits much sooner

One thing to keep in mind is the response from a supercharger is instant compared to a turbo, but it needs more RPM to achieve max boost compared To a turbo. But it’ll be interesting to see how the hybrid component changes things.
