The other day I got, "You were literally flying. Is that thing supercharged?" after I launched over a railroad crossing near my house.

Only problem was that the question came from a cop who had just pulled me over. Luckily, he was nice enough to let me go with a warning- after a brief lecture of course. Def saw a smirk as he got back into his car though.

I am thinking that the Raptor is a pretty profitable vehicle. First off, I think many of the improvements that happened on the Raptor were incidental to the R&D of the standard f-150. Most likely, it was one of those things where someone said, what would happen if we did this. Second, the F-Series is by far the most profitable line in the whole ford lineup. Some have put the margins on the F-series, and all pickup lines at 25%, or more. There are other vehicles that don't receive near the advertising, because they are not nearly as profitable. It doesn't take a ton of marketing savvy to realize that Ford mainly advertises two lines. The low cost vehicles that draw people in, and the high margin vehicles that make money. That is just part of the game of business.

The thing is, if ford didn't make a profit on their high performance vehicles, they wouldn't have more of them than any other non-luxury car manufacturer, the only vehicles they don't have a performance version of is the fusion, c-max and their SUVs/vans/crossovers, and who knows if they won't have some performance SUVs in the next few years

I guess you could count the explorer sport, but I was thinking about the difference in performance comparing the standard mustang and the gt500/boss 302, major improvements in power and handling performance

Just posted on another SVT site. It amazes me the number of people who think they have more business sense than the folks that propelled Ford through some trying times.

Bingo! Before he went to Ford, I worked on Alan Mulally's 777 jetliner team at Boeing from beginning to end. Met him numerous times and he knows how to run a business, and he cares what customers think and want. If Ford is making Raptors, and now more of them than ever, they are making a profit on em, period....either on the trucks themselves, or elsewhere in the company. Kudos to FORD.

Like maybe soon they'll have explorer STs or edge STs running a more powerful ecoboost v-6 with performance suspension like the focus and fiesta STs

I don't think ford thought they were going to make money on the raptor but we all like it so much we keep buying them and they're making more so yes it turns out ford is making money on the raptor. I figured this all out with common sense. if ford was not making money production would stop meaning they are making money they are thinking of making production changes. however that may or may not flop.

^^Big Pharma has expanded their markets with targeted therapies. Meaning, they have been developing drugs that only treat a few people with certain genetic profiles. They charge a premium for targeted drugs due to the cost of development and the low demand. Ford has embraced this business strategy and has continued to develop specialized vehicles while all the other auto makers have targeted the masses. Way to go Ford!!
