From looking at the OP's pictures, it appears that the key tumbler mechanism was compromised somehow enabling the ratchet jaw to be loosened. No pry marks on his truck indicates no force was used.

I've actually just given myself a crash course on all the popular tailgate locks out there to include McGard, Gate Keeper, Bully and Master. Truth is they've all been cracked at some point in time by motivated or well equipped thieves. What I did find that seemed to be the actual best bang for the buck was a beefy hose clamp where the screw is located in an extremely difficult to reach location. The hose clamp is tightened to the point of not leaving any pry room and the screw is so hard to get most thieves will move on.

Finally, I think that anyone who puts any type of lock on their tailgate should also affix a small sticker proclaiming the use of locks, alarms or whatever. It seems to have been proven that many times the thieves won't bother if they have to mess with security measures. I'm thinking of this one: "To the maggot who is thinking of taking this tail gate...it is double locked, alarmed and I am armed so ask yourself if it's worth it. Well punk, is it?"

I did the research when I bought my Raptor in May and I chose this one made by the company that makes the Jimmy Jammer. It took us a solid 5 min to get the factory bolt out, with the right tools. If I knew I was going to steal a tailgate with this lock I could bring an electric impact wrench and the right Torx bit but it's unlikely. This one I really like.

Thief still can get the special bit like the others. Guess all you could hope for is they are lazy, don't have tools and move on.

This Gate Keeper thing is most definitely heavy duty. The problem with these (that I've read about) is the thief has room between the bracket and truck hinge to insert a long ass pry tool and bend the thing enough to remove the tailgate. No system is foolproof I guess and anything is better than nothing. I still think it would be a good idea to advertise the use of extra locks, etc. so the casual ******** will just move on.

The more safe guards you have, the more time it takes to get the tail gate off. Couple that with an alarm, and I can't figure out why some one would try to steal one in a driveway. Especially when you could grab half a dozen tail gates, down at the dealership. In less time and without the fear of getting shot.:gr_guns:
