His shock body was covered in oil, dripping down from the seal. Id say 300 degrees of the 360 degrees of the body was covered and dripped down 2-3"

...Ford only wants to replace one front shock under warranty. I could purchase the second front shock for $853.30 if I want to replace both at the same time. Then they offer up the bad news. According to them the shocks are on back order until at least the middle of June...

Let me take a crack at this, Labraptor; I want to see how I can help. For me to get things rolling, send a PM my way with your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealership. I'll get to work on some options.

Your dealer is trying to do the right thing for you by suggesting that both sides be replaced. Replacing one side under warranty is perfectly fine, but don't let him talk you into replacing the one that is still good. Instead, get him to note it on the work order that the other side should be replaced and let him replace the one that is bad, then when the other side does fail, it should be easier to get it replaced under warranty.

As for giving you parts back. The dealer is required to provide the replaced (old) parts to you if requested. But that is only on non-warrantied (you paid for) parts. If the part is warrantied then the dealer may show you the old part(s) but then is required to dispose per manufacturers instructions. Most times Ford will ask for big ticket items like this to be sent back to Ford for verification.

I would buy the slightly used set or a new set of aftermarket shocks. Also get the one replaced under warranty and then you have a new spare in case it happens again after your warranty is up. It is always nice to have a spare part when you need it let alone a new part.

I am not going to wait a month. Will replace with something sooner than that. Might just take the blown shock or shocks(by then) into the service department and tell them to call me when the new ones are in. Generally getting tired of some of the crap Ford pulls with the truck. Love my truck but my opinion of Ford as a whole is suffering. Good thing for them it is still much higher than my opinion of chevy so my delivery vehicles are still going to be Ford when I get new ones.

Will send a pm with the info this evening. Thank you for taking an interest in this. Dealer is ok to deal with now. Ford on the other hand... :flame:

Seems foolish not to take this opportunity to upgrade to 3.0. You use your truck hard and the difference is night and day. Let them replace the stock shock so you have pinch hitters when rebuilding your worn out 3.0s.

So "we" have a set of pinch hitters when rebuilding 3.0's.
