So the stock Gen II hitch is that stub welded to a portion of the bumper support? You bolted on a standard frame mount hitch like the Gen 1 trucks have- I was wondering how you had 2 on at the same time.

Seems like major step backwards not being able to use a true frame mount hitch without ditching your spare.

I'd bet a dollar they sacrificed the full frame mount hitch so they could move the spare tire and free up room for rear exit exhaust.

Yours is a 1st gen. If i remember right, my 1st gen had a proper hitch. My 2nd gen has a bumper mount with a hitch built in. Never had issues on my 1st gen. That said, the 2nd gen does tow fantastic aside from the garbage OE hitch.

Damn I had no idea the Gen2 has a bumper mount. Wow that's just plain dumb considering the SCREW can tow just as much as the Gen1.

Wait. The Gen 2 doesn't come with a real hitch package?! That wasn't even an option on the Gen 1, it was standard.

Yep. It LOOKS like a real hitch but its only a small box section welded to the rear bumper mount. Fortunately i'm used to not having a spare. I generally use a slime inflator kit. I feel safer doing that quickly on the roadside vs jacking the truck and swapping the wheel. I don't want to crawl under the car to get the spare on the highway thats for sure! I carried the slime kit anyways .but damn the spare would not even fit deflated and vacuumed flat.

The gen 1 hitch setup was much more robust. The class 4 will handle up to 12,000# so i am glad to upgrade it but obviously would prefer it to have a proper hitch from the start. I mean they charge almost 2k for graphics and can't put a real hitch on it?

Thanks for the pics, is it the piece that receives the ball mount that has twisted or more than that? Wondering if a good welding shop could reinforce the stock hitch (prior to being bent) so the spare could be retained? Is there a class 4 that appears stock and allow spare retention? Good luck...

My gen2 has a frame mounted hitch, just like my gen1 did. I towed the same #6k boat, and now a #7k+ TT with a weight distributing hitch, for several thousand miles with ZERO issues.

Where does this shit come from!?

Can you unbolt the hitch from the Gen 2 truck and still mount the OEM bumper as normal? Or is the bumper support really the hitch too?
