Who are you to bash me or my shop!!!!!!!

I think I have a right to speak from experience. We charge 250 with alignment to do a perch mod when ford dealers charge 400-500.

Did you know that I have ford dealerships from all over the country calling my cell phone to help them fix the clunk- they dont know how to fix it or look for insight. I help ford owners and dealers all day long answering these calls cuz ford wont help them!!!!!!! I just had a customer drive all the way from ohio cuz the dealer could figure out what was clunking in the front end. I have plenty of credability on this board and speak from my personal experience with dealerships. They call me for help and have no problem covering warranty items on modified trucks including perch mods. BTW We warranty anything we touch.

tell me what I should do when they call me???? Should I start charging them a consulting fee????

My shop has the rep it does for good reason. I take great offense to the implication of steering customers in the wrong direction or I am scamming them in some way. Speak to all my customers then post what they say.

When YOU a vendor/shop, suggest warranty fraud/service abuse openly on a public Internet forum, yeah, I'll go ahead and call that shady. Because it is!! Not to mention, members are going to look at your post(because your a vendor) as factual information, telling them perch mod won't void warranty by backing it up with a bunch of bs is putting them at risk. If your going to make claims about warranty info and give your opinion, at least research what your telling people so they don't get bit in the ass.

Oh yeah and who gives a **** how superior you think you are to ford dealers and ford techs. I swear half your post are about how ford dealers/techs suck, and how much more awesomer you are at fixing things when they can't. Just like the post of yours I quoted above!! All about how awesome you are fixing unicorn problems when clunks and shit have nothing to do with what I said that got this started. And I know your hatred and superior attitude to ford techs carry right on over to me. Got that feeling some time ago.

He gave his opinion, notice the $.02 at the end of his post? Can the perch mod void some part of your warranty? Maybe, but even if it does it would more than likely only be for the shocks. Calling someone's business practices shady is a bit over the top and I would feel the same was as Dave.

So openly suggesting to rip ford motor company off is ok??? No wonder vehicles cost so much, service sucks, and warranty claims are scrutinized more and more every day.

You know, looking back at what was originally posted was:
"mid perch SHOULD have no affect on warranty"
Dave didn't say "mid perch WILL have no affect on warranty"

Then he goes on to say that alterations technically voids the warranty, so he again is not saying that it WILL not void it. He also mentions that some dealers do the perch mod and they are the ones that provide the Ford warranty, so why are they doing it (the point Dave was making)?

And lastly he says that you wouldn't need to worry about warranty on this mod but ends it with his 2 cents, making it an opinion.

I think we ALL know that mods could cause a potential warranty denial issue and if anyone thinks that it will not is just fooling themselves. I never read Dave's post and thought for a second, oh because he is saying it (or anyone for that matter) that it will not affect warranty so I am going to proceed now. I don't think I am alone on that either.

Pirate Air, your a ford tech, right? I haven't even gotten my raptor yet but do plan on doing the mid perch. My dealer said they would do it for $480 and I know I can go elsewhere to get it done for less. My question is, What have you seen that a mid perch causes that would cause damage to the suspension down the road to deny a warranty claim? I am asking because I really would like to know. I would think off-roading hard at the factory setting would actually do more harm to the suspension but I am no expert so I am seeking your advice before I proceed.

Exactly! It's admitted that it may or may not (or who knows what at this point because it was contradicting to previous sentences) void warranty... But the post continues to say, go ahead and take it in because the dealer won't (because the retarded ford techs can't wipe their own ass) notice the perch adjustment.... Warranty fraud anyone??

Adjusting perch would accelerate wear on cv joints while in 4x4 due to the fact static ride height will be higher changing the working angle of the cv joint.

really, you don't significantly effect much in terms of possible wear and tear besides the cv joints. The perch mod has historically been a pretty safe mod. I've only ever seen a few cases where a shock, cv shafts, and upper control arm/ball joints denied from perch mod. Fords not blind to the mod, some action has taken place over time.

It's low risk, but you still have to accept the fact that if something does go wrong, you may be paying out of pocket to fix it. With the way all manufactures are tightening the grip when it comes to warranty, what your dealer over looked today (inadvertently or not) may not be over look tomorrow. Techs didn't know what a smaller pulley was on blown cobras but they sure as hell do now ten years later. Same thing with duramax piston damage and countless other things. You never know what or when a manufacture is going to make it a point to deny something.

Paying more for the dealer to perform the job says to me the dealer will stand behind it and try to fight to get it fixed under warranty if something should happen. You pat their back, they pat yours kinda deal. But as long as you realize there's some risk, take it to whoever you feel will do the best job for the right price.

I appreciate your insight, thanks!

I wouldn't say that doing a mid perch and then taking it into the dealership for a suspension problem is considered Warranty Fraud. In it's simplest form, fraud is knowingly committing an act to conceal something for financial gain. If you left it on mid, then what are your concealing? Now if you knew the mid perch caused a CV problem and then moved it back to bottom perch before bringing it in, then that might be fraud.

Well Pirate if I offended you I do apologize, and any other ford techs. I can see how my posts would and that wont happen again. I speak from my experience/frustrations locally and try to help people that dont seem to be getting help that they deserve. It angers me how customers get treated by dealers in this area and in others after spending 50k- yours must be different and thats great. I wish raptor owners had that here. I in no way promote warranty fraud nor did I say ford techs cant wipe there own asses. I told my experience but your right though- knocking the quality of ford service is off base. The post above kinda makes my point though- 400-500 for a 2 hour job? Is is voiding the warranty?. I have spent 20 years in this business so I do have some experience and knowlege i like to share with other people including dealers that ask. I sure dont know everything and really dont mean to come off high and mighty.

We have 2 former ford techs that work for the shop- I hope they dont hate me also

I was one of the trucks that has a mishap at the Snoball and had to leave my truck at the dealership in Escanaba.

I just got my truck back Thursday night (they were nice enough to deliver it) and I just noticed how far off my steering wheel is.

Hopefully I can get a dealer around here to fix it then bill the dealer up in Michigan.

If they were lazy enough to screw this up, it makes me wonder what else they took short cuts on. I noticed my hood alignment was off a little as well.

Good luck with that. It's amazing how incompetent some of these places are. It gives all dealers/techs a bad name.

First hand experience. My DEALER recommended the perch adjustment. Said everybody does it (several guys at the dealership have Raptors and have done this mod). I had it done (did it myself - it's not that hard - just had to rent some tools to compress the springs). One weekend at our sand dunes (Little Sahara - near Delta Utah) and my front end is shot. CV boots torn, axles sheared. Rear wheel drive home and one of the CV axles came off on the highway (which was a ton of fun - tore up brake lines, marred up rim, etc.). Drove to the shop and they immediately say they wouldn't warranty. Called it abuse (said we must have jumped it). I told them we hadn't. Several back and forths (they worked very hard to find reasons not to warranty all the damage) and they finally called in the Ford engineers. Engineers couldn't find any abuse but said they wouldn't warranty because of the perch mod. I did a lot of mods to the truck (Roush intake and exhaust, winch, built in air compressor, bed cover, liner, LEDs, etc...) and checked on everything to make sure I was careful about the warranty EXCEPT this perch mod because the dealer recommended. Still hitting my head against a brick wall with the warranty (calling Ford directly today) and looking at about a $10k bill to have them fix it. I'll fix it myself if I have to but this is ridiculous. Wish I'd have checked this forum before that particular mod because it's pretty obvious that it does void the warranty... Ugh

#1 reason I don't go to the dealer for anything other than oil changes and warranty work. And the only reason for the oil changes is in case something with the motor happens they can't tell me it was because I didn't do oil changes on time. They have a full record of it and they did the work. But alignments and anything else, I'll go elsewhere. It's generally cheaper and done better than what the dealer does.
