Directly under. Lots of knuckles and extensions will get the job done. That heat shield got stuck on me and was a pita. My advice, it'll end up in a pile of scrap parts, do what you have to in order to get it out.
Awesome. I'm having an issue with 1 bolt on the passenger side manifold...all others are out. Ahh...I gotta figure out how to jack it up from there...garage is tight so maneuvering a jack around is tough.

drivers side manifold is out...almost broke my damn wrist getting that last nut out but it's out....was sweating like a ***** in church doing so...

now, last night around 12 am i figured shit, let me go another 3-4 hours and see what i can do about that passenger side. i haven't gotten to removing the motor mounts yet. i'm working on getting the starter out. 1 13mm nut not a problem....the other 2...wtf...MB, how the hell did you get to the two top nuts for the starter!?!?

i think once i get this out and the motor mount bolts i'll be in much better shape. so far going on about 15 hours of just remove...missing tools and little mobility didn't help much there.

I started to video it but the first two hours were me cussing and making no progress. I ended up stopping it and decided to go this route. Lol

I took the solenoid off the front to get to the upper bolts on the starter. Just be careful during reinstallation. I didn't get the clutch inserted properly so when the battery was connected the starter ran constantly. Took me a while to figure out what happened. Chris suggested I check that and sure enough that's all it was.

Cool. I'll take a look this afternoon. I was surprised I was able to get the drivers side out without having the truck off the ground. Passenger side looks like a whole different animal. I was just about to throw in the towel last night.

And white flag waved...**** off with this thing. I got one header in...and half assed to boot. Not even going to attempt to get the passenger side out after the shit show its been for 4 hours. Once I saw my semi hack job on the drivers side I said no more (btw...SW bolts are awful). If I can't do it right...I'd rather pay for it to be done how it should be...
