so i'm thinking about doing this install myself. i was looking into some rhino gear rhino ramps to go along with using some jackstands to do the install. seems like a pain but i wouldn't mind taking a crack at it...worse that can happen is i end up paying someone to get it done.

for the guys who have done the install themselves, how high did you have to jack up the truck. i ask b/c i recently changed my wheels / tires out and getting it up only a few inches with a 3 ton floor jack was a challenge to say the least. figured the ramps would get me a decent amount of height to work with. any thoughts or suggestions? my driveway isn't ideal since it's at a slight incline (not sure if ramps plus chocks would work well). but the garage seems to be the best bet even though it is a little cramped.

You will want to remove the front tires. Otherwise it'll only make the job harder and it's already hard enough. I used a 1-1/4 ton portable jack with two jack stands and had no issues. I did use a spare scissor jack when I lifted the engine which is also required. I'd also do this in your garage as you may not complete it in a day and leaving it sit out may not be ideal. Plus you'll have no protection from the elements.

This install is no joke...but so far the only hiccup I had was not having a 17 mm wrench for the O2 sensors. I'm about half done. Air intake, Cats y pipe and exhaust are out. Top 8 bolts are off. Called it quits after 6 hours. Going to start back up tomorrow after work for a few hours and see what I can get done. So far wheels have stayed put...I borrowed some crazy extensions from my father in law (a plumber)...he saved me a lot of time and headaches....so far....Looks like the fun stuff starts tomorrow!

So I'm starting back up this afternoon. I can see about 3 lower bolts on the stock manifolds. My guess is I'll be able to see the rest a bit easier when I get the motor jacked up. When you guys got the motor up did you leave the jack in place or put stands under the 2x4? How'd you position the board on the jack? Length wise front to back or side to side?

Keep in mind the truck is on the ground. I had plenty of clearance to get everything out so far without having to jack her up. Any advice would be awesome. Would love to burn through the night and get this done if need be.

I lifted my engine with a support across the top of the engine that supports the weight of the engine and then pulled the mount. also took the ac compressor loose and let it lay on the frame. made it easier to get the lower manifold bolts and install the header bolts. just seems that the stand would be in the way. good luck it does not get any easier. oh and I also removed the front drive shaft.

My 2x4s were side to side and I left them like that. Didn't have anything else for the job.

Cool. Did you place directly under the oil pan or the cross member below it? these lower bolts are a pain in the balls. The heat shield on the passenger side manifold is being a pain in the ass as well.

Directly under. Lots of knuckles and extensions will get the job done. That heat shield got stuck on me and was a pita. My advice, it'll end up in a pile of scrap parts, do what you have to in order to get it out.
