does anybody else see the irony in one of the most inefficient vehicles out there running support for what is deemed as an efficient next gen vehicle?? Its just funny to me.

Good on you Greg for getting our truck out there again...

So the Carbon offset between the two equals a pinto...

My Raptor meets the need of this adventure so far.. As this project gets underway, we might have to reevaluate the Raptor/raptors...

One of the senior members on the Tesla forum said I should just push him down the highway with the Raptor... With 60kw regen he said it would top the Tesla up faster than a charger.. Lol

I suggested hooking up a harness to the front of the Tesla and just dragging it down the highway...

I don't think the owner would take kindly to me nerfing or dragging his $100k car..

well if the raptor isn't an acceptable truck would an ecoboost f-150 maybe be a more practical application for a chase truck? just throwing out ideas don't be afraid to call me a total ******** haha

Believe it or not, tides have began to change.. Actually getting positive/helpful feedback and suggestions. Once they figured I wasn't a typical "gas breath" trying to stir up trouble...

That being said, it is not going to be easy and might need a reevaluation of the Raptor as support truck.

Came up with better way to fully recharge a battery pack during 3-4 hour drive time between recharges..

Swap the battery pack out, and replace it with fully charged one off the trailer.. Tesla can swap a battery pack out in 90 seconds. Using robots and a specially designed cradle.

The thought it is to takes them 90 seconds with robot, how long would 4 people take? If less than 30 minutes then we might have a perfect solution..

Jeb is meeting up with Tesla to have a little face to face time.. Throw out our ideas and see what sticks and what help we get..

I mentioned that on page 5.

Yes, you did and that got me thinking and asking questions... Have to explore every avenue and option..

The biggest hurdle is the battery weighs around 1100 lbs, so a jack/cradle would be necessary.

uploadfromtaptalk1375329235380.jpg

It is also liquid cooled, so a circulating pump/cooler would be necessary to charge it.

The other technical issue is no one (except Tesla) knows if the computers would freak out when exchanging batteries.. If the batteries are linked be serial numbers, what will be reset, if all settings will be lost..

It is an option we are looking at and asking questions.. This is $100k car and not a remote control toy (even though it is battery powered). Don't want to let the magic smoke out and have a large paperweight...

here, on frf
how extensive can the mods be on the tesla? are there any rules about removing or adding parts? if not, i would think about removing door panels, back seats etc, to save weight then adding a second battery if possible. if you have 2 chase vehicles both equipped with charging stations, you could go 600 miles and still keep a 30 minute charge. you can have each vehicle charge each battery seperately at the same time. but then again, i dont design electric cars, i dont know how feasible that would be.

also, you shifters will alter the signal even though you are behind the car. so if the car gets hit, there is a good chance that the shifters on your truck will protect it.

After a week of beating my head against the wall... At least 50 phone calls and at least a hundred emails back a forth with Tesla..

Finally a suit from Washington put the e-hammer down...

"Greg – thanks for the outreach. I think I can respond pretty quickly to your questions.

·On the DC charge protocol, that is protected IP and unfortunately not open to disclosure.

·On the swap capability – check out our demo video on the teslamotors.com site where we show how automated swap would work (coming soon to a Supercharger location near you!).

·On the coolant and electronics, we use “quick connects” that assist in the Tesla automated swap system. The packs are not necessarily proprietary to a specific vehicle, but are specific by type (e.g., 85kW can only be swapped for 85kW and 60 for 60).

On swapping, we don’t endorse owners swapping packs themselves. These packs weigh in excess of 1,000 pounds each and can be very dangerous for someone without the proper equipment to swap out. In addition, connections must be assured. I don’t see how this could be done safely on the road without a pit, lift and heavy equipment. In fact, removal by non-Tesla service personnel is discouraged because of the weight and high voltage hazards. This will also void your warranty.* Moreover, there is no way to safely recharge the packs without the supporting electronics on the vehicle.

I again appreciate your interest. For the record, you may want to look at what we’re doing with automated swap. Once that system is in place cross-country, you should be able to beat the ICE record using our Supercharger/swap stations.

Best – Jim

They don't know me very well... Brandi laughed when she read this and said "you are not going to let this go, are you?"

Hell no! Just like Shawshank Redemption... I will write/call them every week until they give in..

So your going to need a pretty big trailer, mobile charging station with lift to raise the car to get to the batteries. A generator that does not need to be to big, ie it does not use a lot of amps to charge the batteries, and can charge slower because you wont use the battery pack faster than you can charge it with its mobility...
