Maybe I missed it, but surprised nobody mentioned WSI springs and a drop shackle. That's what I plan to go with in the future. The factory spring and lift block combo is probably the only thing I feel that Ford really should've done better.

Drop shackles are only meant for sprung under system

I'm fairly certain people have been running a leveling shackle like the Synergy Suspension 09+ Ford F150 / Raptor Leveling Shackle, so I'm confused by your response. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'd just like you to expand upon your answer and enlighten me in case I'm making something up? Here's the details from the SDHQ site for the leveling shackle:

  • Synergy Suspension 09+ Ford F150 / Raptor Leveling Shackle
  • 1" longer than stock drops the rear to help eliminate factory "rake" and gain suspension travel
  • Designed to work with both stock and replacement long travel leaf packs
  • Features a grease zerk for service and longevity
  • Manufactured from high strength 3/16" steel & powder coated for corrosion resistance

It's also quite possible I used the wrong terminology when describing the shackles in question?

I'm interested to hear the reasoning behind this as well. What is the issue with the drop shackle travel vs the stock shackle?

I personally do not know the exact reasoning, but have been told by several rpg guys that drop shackles are only for a under axle spring system where the shocks actually go underneath the axle and through the bed for maximum travel. However using a shackle on a normal length spring with a system above the axle and under the bend you are limiting up travel which is already a big issue for these trucks

Just going to add.... squatting dog got his name from +1 springs.
I had the same problem.
Your sir need to be considering a drop shackle. The +1" sac out to early. They are a progressive spring. Without proper geometry, the spring cannot handle the weight of the truck.

However I have been told that RPG sells the standard duty which are +1

So it sounds like there real problem is lowering the rear and not the shackle itself. Lets just say if u were running a +3 with a 1" drop shackle u are keeping the stock up travel...

But since your that inch lower, won't it cause you to ride on the bump stops more. Someone with some more information can chime in on this

Not with +3 springs. A 1" drop would make the springs sit the truck at +2 which is equal to stock height. Plus it's a progressive rate spring so its final rate should help keep it off the bumps a bit more

Drop shackles on springs that are a +1 or stock screw up the spring progression so what you would need to do if you wanna get the shackles in get the heavy duty leafs with the drop shackles get the +2 with the shackles and it'll drop the rear an inch also the shackles allow more droop so the heavy duty spring will act like the standard duty spring if that makes any sense to you haha so you would want the stage 3 with the HD nationals in a +2 with the drop shackles. We make drop shackles that we use on our sprung under kits and that's what we have to do is use te HD springs to make up for the drop shackles

So u would say a HD spring that sits the truck taller than stock and with a drop shackle sits stock height or slightly taller should be good and not have any limited travel?
