I prefer +2s because of the extra up travel. I only notice the difference offroad. Most guys don't want the rear sitting higher so they go with the +1s. There won't be any risk of Dave running +1s it just depends what you want for your truck

Is there an increase in down travel with the 1+? And does the truck ride on the bumps more?

The shock has a set length. If you sacrifice some of that up-travel length, you have to be increasing the down-travel length. Most people seem to want more up-travel for those "oh shit" moments when you hit a washout you didn't see and back axle is forced upwards quickly and with a lot of force. That extra up-travel helps you not slam into the bumpstops and also gives the air bumps, if equipped, more length to slow the axle down and minimize or eliminate any potential damage.

Or at least that's how I understand it...please somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

+2s will keep you at stock height in the rear and if you throw in a mid perch adjustment for the front that will level the truck out. So you won't have that raked look. National SD or Deaver +2s are my recommendation. If you go National HD or Deaver +3s you would need to carry about 500lbs in the bed in order for the springs to function normally.

Just going to add.... squatting dog got his name from +1 springs.
I had the same problem.
Your sir need to be considering a drop shackle. The +1" sac out to early. They are a progressive spring. Without proper geometry, the spring cannot handle the weight of the truck.

Maybe I missed it, but surprised nobody mentioned WSI springs and a drop shackle. That's what I plan to go with in the future. The factory spring and lift block combo is probably the only thing I feel that Ford really should've done better.
