I removed the crappy factory tape that was peeling off and replaced it with with gorilla tape while I have side steps removed. There are also holes behind each side step mount that didn't have factory tape. A couple of them contained dirt which I removed the best I could by hand and then taped them shut like the rest. I'm wondering if anyone else has done the same since I assume the side steps were installed when most other folks "fixed" this issue.

When I replaced my tape on the rockers, I just taped around whatever holes were near the step mounts . Where there hidden holes that you can't see behind the mounts themselves?

The ones that contained dirt sound like the drain holes. Mine were clogged with dirt and that's what caused it to rust according to the service manager.

That makes sense!! I always flush the ones on the bottom of the doors too!! Just spray up with a bit of water to clean them out! ^^^^

Yes, there are holes behind the step mounts.

The smaller hole covered by gorilla tape on the bottom right side of the picture above had factory tape on it and would probably be a pain in the ass to replace with the mount installed as well.

Not as big of a concern, but the area where the side steps and mounts attach was packed with mud and rocks as well.
