A question has come up via PM that might deserve some attention. Its about the OEM boots that are reused when installing the RPG tie rods. There's concern that they are undersized for the RPG clevises, and that they'll wear from the inside out pretty quickly. Also one guy has done the install himself and is having trouble keeping the boot secured on the steering box side; it keeps popping off on the passenger side.

Maybe RPG can fill in the details as to why they opted to reuse the stockers rather than provide new larger boots?

As for securing the boot to the steering box side, my install reuses the stock clamps and so far they've held the boot in place on both sides just fine. I just ran out and took a couple quick pics to show ya. Here's my driver side:

And here's the passenger side:

So while I haven't had any problem yet, maybe RPG can fill us in as to why they chose to reuse the stock clamps rather than provide new hose clamps?

Know of a good video of how to take the stock clamps off and on?

Those type of clamps should not be reused... When you try to reuse em they will come off

Any suggestions on what to use then? Get some new oem ones or just use regular hose clamps or something else?

Those clamps aren't really meant for reuse. There's a special crimping tool used to clamp them tight (and a torque spec for the crimp amount lol). I always cut them off and install a new one. There's a different style clamp that's similar the factory style shown. I believe you can get them at parts stores (we get them in bulk). They also take a special tool to tighten but it doesn't cost much. Nice part is this aftermarket style clamp can be used on whatever kinda boots (cv, driveshaft, steering rack, whatever) because they come in different lengths. I'll see what I can dig up for places to find the after clamp and tool I'm talking about.

Dorman makes a universal replacement boot and clamp... But, I would think RPG should have a kit for the larger size tie rods they sell... I would ask them about it too
