Also, EXTREMELY similar, this happened to me and it seems VERY related:

I think Ford is trying to get away with not replaced the molded leadframe under this new recall. Software updates are cheap. The leadframe isn't.

That's the issue I had with my Raptor late last year. My truck was not built in the date frame Ford claims but my ESP covered the repair and yes, it's not cheap.

I do wonder if I need to go back for the recall as well?

I checked on the Ford Owner site and saw the recall alert after logging in. Additionally, I just got an email from the NHTSA today for the same thing. Guess I’ll be reflashing my PCM to stock and then scheduling a dealership appointment. I’ll have to check with SVC regarding whether reflashing their tune afterward will overwrite whatever fix Ford programs into the PCM.

I have a dealership appointment scheduled for this Friday. They seemed to be familiar with the recall and said they had programming available for everything except the 2013 trucks.

Called up my local dealer here in LA and the guy said they do not have the software to reflash the pcm and would not receive it until March. First time they had heard of the recall. He advised I wait to get a letter from the NHTSA which will tell me what to do... because scheduling it to be taken care of is so hard?

FYI. If you’re running the @svc tune, you’re likely going to have to run the updated stock tune for a while and possibly indefinitely unless you go with another vendor who is still actively offering PCM tuning.

One of the other vendors here has posted a response on their site regarding how their customers should handle this recall.

“What does this mean to me as an owner? Once you receive your initial recall notice from Ford, call your dealership and schedule your PCM update. Ford will be offering this update at no charge to owners. Prior to service remember to return your vehicle to stock. Once in stock form proceed to have your update complete. Upon completion, email your strategy code to [email protected]. If your PCM has been updated, we will update your existing tune files to the new strategy code free of charge.”

I’ve returned my vehicle to stock and am scheduled to have the recall related update applied this Friday, but I have not decided yet on how I want to proceed with aftermarket tuning afterward. I’ll update you as I hear more from SVC.

Also, this is not me bashing SVC. Just an FYI for those that run their tune and are planning to have the recall fix applied.

Update from @svc. They got an update from their tuner and he stated that the PCM update for the recall should not affect the tune. It’s recommended that you flash back to stock prior to having the recall addressed and then reapply the tune after your PCM has been updated.

@Vash are you able to shed light on why 5* has an update post pcm update and svcs would not? I'm running an svc tune with mine. Would be curious why one has an update and the other says no update after the update is required. Im not overly savvy with the world of aftermarket tuning

Your guess is as good as mine. You might contact Jeff Thompson At @svc as he’s the one that followed up with the tuner and they won’t allow you to speak directly with the tuner. Maybe their tune is not strategy code dependent? I did capture the strategy code and SWPN numbers off the vehicle information screens on the SCT X4. I may contact Jeff again for confirmation about reapplying the tune if I notice a change after application of the recall.

I'm wondering how to go about this recall. My truck is supercharged with a JDM tune, so I can't really put it back to stock. What are the other supercharged guys doing?

You either keep what you have, or get an updated tune that has the new Ford revised code in it. I'd call JDM and ask how they handle things like that.
