I am considering doing this. Not because I _Had_ to have a king ranch or some other luxury item. But because I Have to have a Regular Cab. Shorter wheelbase, and a shorter overall length than even the Supercab raptor, and much, much better outward visibility. Ever try looking over your shoulder to change lanes? Pretty huge blind spot eh? It's about halved, or more for the Regular Cab. When I remove the tailgate I can just look over my shoulder and see exactly where my rear bumper is.
Plus the Regular Cab is much lighter (About 1000 lbs), and I still have a full 6.5' bed. I've test driven a couple of raptors recently, and none of them feel any faster than my 5.0 with 35" tires. I am guessing it's all in the weight.
Plus the parts can be had for relatively cheap.
$450 -
Fiberwerx Fiberglass fenders and Valance
$500 - Paint the fenders (this is a rough guess)
$126 Left, $126 Right -
Raptor Upper Control Arm
$369 Left, $369 Right -
Raptor Lower Control Arm
$223 Left, $202 Right -
Raptor CV Axles
$54 Left, $53 Right -
Raptor Tie Rod Ends
$700 - Used Fox Shocks from Ebay or here (could be even cheaper)
$220 -
Icon rear shocks
Still have to address the rear springs, but apparently the rear Raptor springs suck anyway, so we're even on that.
Do all of the install myself, and it comes out to be $3292. All bolt on. Add that onto the cost of my Regular Cab, ~$24,500, and you have $27,800
I could do it even cheaper if I found take-off parts from someone on here who has upgraded theirs.
I can't understand why people don't do this more often? For the front torsen diff? For the electronics? What do electronics get you, when I can turn off my AdvanceTrac (which actually just raises the threshold limits very high. They can't legally allow you to completely remove stability control)? Aside from allowing you to slip and slide around, what do the electronics get you? Hill descent control? Guess I'm old school in that I've always used the brakes when going downhill.
realistically I'm never going to jump my vehicle anyway. Too costly. And this setup leaves enough cash left over to buy an ATV, which can jump.
Anyway, I'm debating doing this as a summer project versus just buying a Raptor outright (ordering a SuperCab through one of those dealers selling at Invoice). The raptor has more resale, but much more initial cost.

By the way, I am very much looking forward to knowing if the Raptor axles will bolt into place. If so that makes the conversion so much easier.
