Why come on this site and start attacking us members? Sure your intentions were good asking simple questions, but a lot of times threads digress as is the case with this one. Opinions are like ******** everyone has one. Stick to the questions you have dont digress.

There is a thread somewhere on this forum that has a very good technical explanation of exactly what Off-Road Mode does and the impact it has on off-road driving. It details the impact on the torque curve, shift points, etc. I found it to be extremely informative when I was researching the Raptor and learning what I could before buying one.

In my opinion, the Raptor is unique. If you compare the MSRP of the Raptor to the MSRP of a King Ranch, for example. Then compare the MSRP of a Shelby Mustang to the MSRP of a Mustang GT. By comparison, the Raptor is a downright bargain. SVT designed vehicles traditionally command a premium, almost ALWAYS with a "market value" markup. While some dealers apply this to the Raptor, it's usually only a short drive to find one at flat MSRP.

Someone already stated that it wasn't one single aspect of the Raptor that makes it special. It's how all the components work together. The old adage "The whole is greater than the sum of the parts" is very applicable in this case. Couple that with the fact that it is one of the most, if not THE most aesthetically pleasing truck on the market and you simply have one hell of a truck.

On this forum, we are Raptor enthusiasts. Obviously we are biased. But in my own experience, I am comfortable saying I would never have been as happy with a modified F-150 as I have been with the Raptor.

I'm all for F-150 builds using my OEM Raptor parts. It's better than taking up room in the garage and helps to fund my next mod!

I'm all for conversions, though I don't think Raptor coilovers will fit unless you either a) use longer A-arms, b) use a lift that drops the LCA.

There is a considerable difference in length.

Funny how this thread was brought back to life, and people keep posting as if it's still a current discussion.
I think the last comments were in early March?

Thanks for the pictures Warsurfer. That matches what I learned of the lengths back when I was researching it. I believe it came out to close to 4" longer than stock.
From the measurements, it looks like a Rancho 4" lift on a stock F150 would be just about right with the extended length of the Raptor shocks.
Though you would not get the full travel out of them, and therefore would never get into the bypass portion. So it kinda negates the whole point. of using Bypass shocks.
Therefore the only real way to effective use take-off Raptor front coil-overs is to also use Raptor LCAs and UCAs, and all of the other associated parts.

Anyway, I'm a regular cab no frills kinda guy. I just like good suspension. Which is Why I wanted the suspension from the Raptor but nothing else.
I like my Bench seat and column shifter, rubber floor and no SYNC.

In the meantime from when I made this post though I've gone through a few life changes. Short version is, I got engaged, bought a nice house, and turned my old house into rental property. Therefore all of my free money and time have been completely used up, until I get some return on the rental investment in a few years.

On a side note I proposed to my Fiancee on a trip to the UP of Michigan, did some off-roading on that trip, and then proposed on the beach. It was a great weekend.
The F150 did great. On the faster parts I wanted the soft long travel suspension, but instead I had to just slow down. On the less well traveled trails I kept wishing for something skinnier than the F150, so the Raptor would've been way too wide. On one part I barely fit through a cut down tree that was accross the trail. I definitely have some new scratches down the sides of my truck from all of the tree branches.

Anyway, my plans to upgrade my suspension to Raptor parts, or just buy a Raptor, are on hold for several years now.
Oh, and I sold the Raptor seats I mentioned earlier in this thread. Had to raise down payment money for the house.

Hopefully all of this discussion helps someone else out though, whether they are looking to add Raptor take-off parts to their truck or just buy a Raptor outright.

It's probably already been posted but for your stated goals:

UNI UCA with a good set of factory replacements (ICON, KING, etc...)

A set of Deavers or Nationals, a decent bypass and a bump kit.

Those fairly simple and relatively cheap mods will allow you to go faster than you should off road and will dramatically improve on road performance as well.

I had the 2.5" Icon set up on my 2010 FX4 .. Def the way to go if your not into swapping Arms and adding glass.. it handled very similar to the raptor (in a straight line anyways)... the raptor turns 100 times better, but I also went from 157" WB to 133"

the SVT rears do bolt right up and are awesome on a regular F150

The Icons are threaded for ride height adjustment so that's worth the price IMO... Some pics of a Bilstein 5100 after a set of whoops in Glamis: :shakehead:
