Hey when I bought this truck the dealer said I had to pay extra for the exclusivity. True story!

Powered?
More comfortable seats?
Really?
So, When did you drive a Raptor?

Jesus Christ, you guys are like an exclusive little club. Can't have people that aren't as cool as you looking like they belong in the same club, eh?

Never said that. Several people have answered your questions and even said "go for it"

Yesterday.

You actually drove it?
Meaning not around the block or sitting in the passenger seat or back seat. Actually, put seat time in it..

Driving the Raptor across country or spending 12 hours behind the wheel in -15 degree weather. Flying across anzo borrego at 80 mph and 100+ heat. Daily commute in rush hour traffic, through snow storms. There is not a more comfortable truck that can do what it can do.

You have to understand Raptor owners (especially FRF members) are like family members. It is a very tight knit group of enthusiasts and tend to defensive when it comes to our Raptors.

Well since I don't own one all I have been able to do are test drives at dealerships. Used examples at that. If you want to trade trucks for a week I'd be into that.

As for being defensive. I never meant to insult the Raptor. I think it feels too long for my needs, and has capabilities that are beyond what I would use it for. Such as jumping and high speed desert running. You may not know, but there are no deserts in Minnesota. Just farmland and trees.

However, I have felt like I was attacked for my idea
In my opinion it would be like putting a harley motor in a triumph and calling it a sportster..
as an example.

I'm not sure which direction I am going to be taking yet. However I am doing research into all of my possibilities so that I make the correct decision. One of the possibilities is swapping over the suspension. One of the is actually buying one outright.
Part of the making that decision is learning what all of the real differences are between the two options. So far I have
  • Off-road Mode (Electronic and Software)
  • slightly stronger back axle components, maybe. But it's still a 9.75" right? Not the 10.5"?
  • re-inforced suspension mounts on the frame
All of the other difference are parts that can be swapped over. Or aesthetics, which do not matter to me.

I got a response from one of the dealerships selling Raptors at or near Invoice. The one in Milwaukee Wisconsin. They are low-balling me on the trade value. Figures, gotta make their money somehow.

Believe it or not there are not a lot of deserts in Missouri either. That is the beauty of the Raptor. It is highly adaptable to almost any driving environment. It easily handles trails, mud, snow, sand, gravel, air, and day to day commuting.

I apologize if I came off as attacking, it was meant to illustrate a point. Even though you add Raptor suspension it will fall short of being like a Raptor. The Raptor is so much more than just suspension (yes, it is a major part) but it is all the little things that make the whole package. It is hard to explain everything, but Ford/SVT have done their homework and the Raptor is worth the price.

Which F-150 do you have? If you don't mind me asking why not just get a raptor? Did you just "have" to have a king ranch or something?

Actually, I wanted a truck to take my bike (BMW S1000rr) to the track. So, I bought a fully loaded FX4. Then I did a few camping trips with friends and thought it would be fun (and safer) to get into recreational off-roading. I thought about buying a Raptor, but didn't feel like putting myself in more debt. So, I thought it would be a fun project to make my truck a little more off road capable... And here I am...lol

Having a good time with my project, too!

What makes the raptor what it is, isn't the shocks, a-arms, steering rack, off road mode, etc.
It's the integration, balance and tuning of those components and features. It all works seamlessly together, creating a truck that handles exceptionally well.
You cannot 100% recreate what the raptor is without spending more than the raptor costs, and a huge amount of time tuning.

You'll never know what the raptor is about until you take one offroad, put it in offroad mode, lock the diff, and hold the gas down until you hit the speed limiter...

not dogging a raptor or this site at all. Raptor was a very good idea for ford. But a raptor really isn't ***** other than the badass drivetrain it has, thats about all. suspension is way to small for a truck of its size. you could build a truck for less that would waste a raptor. more of an all around production truck that has a nice price tag. i live in michigan and I've seen a few trucks at the sand dunes. Ive seen rangers with 2.3l 5speed with nice suspension that runs right with a raptor. your talking maybe a 10k truck. what turns me off about raptors are 4x4. a true long travel is better off 2wd. its all about what you like and want out of a truck.
