The GT makes almost 650 HP on the 3.5HO EB. I’m guessing there is a laundry list of things different compared to the Raptor 3.5, BUT definitely possible to get more power out of her. Ford doesn’t need to beat the TRX HP numbers on paper...just make theirs perform better in a full package.

100HP down against the TRX with the additional detriment of the extra weight of the hybrid system

bingo. If you look at the performance of the Aviator 3.0 vs the Aviator GT with 100 more hp, it’s only good for .3 in the .25 mile.

IMO, if Ford sticks with the EcoBoost, they need to put the truck on a serious diet to be competitive and that completely rules out the hybrid tech, which would take the truck in the total opposite direction they went with Gen2. As FTO has repeatedly said - Jenny outperforms Jennifer in every category.

Unless Ford pulls a 200hp rabbit out of their hybrid hat, they’re not going to be competitive.

Their choice with current tech seems to be either the super expensive GT500 based v8, meaning additional suspension work, or a tarted up EcoBoost. stroking the 3.5 out and adding in some more GT tech could get them close, and if they continue the weight loss of the Gen2 could produce acceleration numbers on less HP / TQ.

I’m suspecting the hybrid power plant won’t be all that. Objective reviewers tend to report some common themes of clunky engagement / disengagement of the electric power, with some indecisiveness.

Surely the GT’s 3.5HO Ecoboost with a few extra Raptor-centric tweaks would provide the power plant then as others are saying, make some extra weight savings to find the performance figures?!

When I bought my ‘20 Raptor almost a month ago my salesman said his Ford rep had just dropped info that the next gen Raptor would come in two trim levels, “base” version costing mid 70’s & “top spec” version $100k +/- before any markup...

Who knows what that would entail but to me, I’d guestimate the base model being an updated version of what we already have in a fully-loaded Gen2 and the top spec version essentially being a TRX beater for those that care that much. I personally don’t see the TRX as a Raptor competitor in reality. It’s not going to jump and survive without frame damage what a Raptor can at the weight of a TRX. It’s undoubtedly an impressive machine - but not a looker and those tablet screens are going to be broken in 6 months from new...

I wouldn't be too quick to make that assumption. The Raptor is a thing because you can jump it. If you're trying to beat the Raptor, you can bet your butt that folks will be jumping it. A lot. I suspect that RAMs frame is pretty dang stout.

Now some added instant torque from an electric motor would be great and could run my blender when camping!

TFL just put out a video where the put a F150 powerboost against a Gen 2 Raptor in 0-60 as well as drag race. It's far from definitive since driver has a big say in that, but the 2 were pretty evenly matched. I was hoping the powerboost would win, or at least that instant torque would show it getting a good head start or something.

That's already established. The reviews on the TRX make it clear it can do what the Raptor does, just with slightly less total composure offroad. It jumps just fine.

The screens have been on Ram trucks for a while now. I don't know why you would think they won't be reliable in the TRX. Besides, the Gen 3 will surely have 12" screens as well. And there are many of us who put custom 12" screens in our Raptors already.

I know. It works well in controlled conditions. But what will be really interesting is how well they hold up when actual customers do the old "Hold my beer and watch this" trick. I'm predicting real carnage. If RAM didn't overbuild the crap out of that frame, they blew it.

I think you'll find they did. The TRX is going to prove out to be a good truck. It just costs a lot to make something as beefy and functional as the Raptor with more power and tech, and... lo and behold it's $15k more. Other than personal preference and brand loyalty there isn't much reason why one would take a Gen 2 Raptor over a TRX if offered either for free. The trick with the Gen 3 Raptor will be to make it better and more refined all around without sending the price sky high. Make it more attractive overall for less money than the TRX. For me the Raptor needs a little more power and tech goodies but what it needs the most is a nicer interior that NEVER squeaks or rattles. I actually think of my Raptor as being a little chintzy because of the shakes and rattles, which don't make me think of it as being all that beefy. I'm always waiting for something to break and I think it's just because Ford didn't give it an inspiring interior. Maybe the 19s and 20s are better.

For what the TRX is, the price is fair. I’d be open to one if it wasn’t so big and if it had better range. I was disappointed to see the TR fail to make the starting line, but the rig is so big and heavy that it would have been a pig, especially with the extra drag from the AWD. Actually the F150 Tremor is a brilliant move. Smaller than a Raptor, more capable off road than the FX4, it fills the needs of guys who could give a rip about Baja style driving but like to go deep into the backcountry. Guys like me. Then you put a blown V8 into the Raptor for the crowd that wants that sort of thing and never gets too far from a gas station. Win/win
