Nice! How'd the other truck do? And congrats on the successful run, and new found hobby.

Ran a GTI a few times years ago at some New England Rally events. So much fun. Have been disappointed that there hasn't been rallyx in Az and excited to hear its starting to be introduced. Any one know if az scca is allowing trucks? I recall they were allowed at NER events.

Here is a shot of the track section I was working. That is dirty ice. Might as well been on a lake. The other half was complete mud.

The other truck was a no show. I think it was either an error on the registration form, so the driver was able to bring a car instead. I am shocked I only hit one cone on all the runs. Next time I need and army of go pros so I can see how close I was getting to the cones. I was told multiple times I would hit a cone, but just wiggle it, so it doesn't count against your time.

Overall, how do you think the Raptor did?

You might consider getting the hellwig 7704 and 7705 front and rear swaybars ($450 on amazon). At least for these events, it will help keeping the trucks bodyroll under control.

The truck did really well. The tight turns shown in the picture above gave the cars a big advantage. The cars could hug the inside of the corners and move quickly. With the trucks size (and it being a crew) I had to set up each turn very slowly and rotate the truck. It cost a lot of time. On the muddy back stretch the truck did very well. One comment I got from other attendees was that the truck just moved over the holes and bumps in the track. The suspension would just suck up the bumps. The cars with the harder suspensions, bounced in and out of the bumps.

I did the whole event in 4x4 high, ORM, locked diff. If I wanted to spin the truck, it spun. Never saw higher than 2nd gear.

For its size, and being on a car course, it did very well. Responsive and handling was very good. Power was there when you wanted it. Considering I made it through the course with one cone all day says a lot about the truck. I will take jsut a small bit of credit for driving. I think all my rock crawling experience translated well. You need to know where your tires and fenders are in relation to the cones.

Later in the year I understand the courses open up some. That might allow the Raptor to shine better. I don't know if it will ever win in the all wheel classes because of its size disadvantage, but with more experience I think there was another 5-8 secs I left on the track, which would have put me in contention for a podium

That is great!...

You might try this next time... 4x4 and single press (sport mode), lock out 4,5,6 gears..

Here is my reason/experience...
4x4 gets the front moving and pulls truck through corners.. Leave orm off, and just use gear lock out. Single press still allow you to slide/rotate but it helps keep the truck from over rotating. (at trr, to me this was faster than traction control off in muddy conditions). Leave the rear locker off, keeps from the front end from being pushed in the corners when slick.

I thought about a single press. Would have worked great in the mud, but would not have given me the rotation I needed in the tight section. There was not enough time to switch between modes. ORM was key, it kept the gears right in the power. Just need a louder exhaust to for a better intimidation factor! ;P. I don't think I saw third gear all day. The key to ORM mode is to not be afraid to put the peddle to the floor. I hit the hard stop on the peddle a few times.

Magnapack will solve the intimidating exhaust issue

My friends and I all drove similar cars and had similar experience and budgets so we just always were competing against each other. Usually coming in the middle of the pack, the competition was really fun just comparing the times from our crew alone. So if you can get some other Raptor owners to hang with at these events it can be a lot more fun.
