POLL: If Ford offers engine option (V6 and V8), which one would you pick?

Which engine would you choose in the 2017 raptor?

What do you think the weight difference total would be between a TT V6 Vs a TT V8 equipped Raptor.

Depends on liter displacement and block material.

If comparing 3.5 to 5.0 if aluminum blocks figure rough estimate around 200 -250 pounds minimum

If cast Iron over 300

If CGI figure 250-300 just going if material masses

I recently heard someone say, "back in the Bronze Age, people scoffed at proponents of iron tools." At first, I thought he was just being an *******, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that we all tend to resist change I initially — even when it's for the better and obvious if we could step back from our emotions and consider all of the known details objectively.

The 3.5 ecoboost has proven to be very reliable in the standard F-1 50, and I would expect that the beefed up version (which will probably make more power, and have a broader torque curve - likely max torque from 1800 to redline - than the current 3.5 eco) will perform even better in the Raptor. If it's performance, not durability that we crave, here's a way to get an frame that's improved over the 1st Gen.

We spend a ton of money on Fox 3.0s, Deavers, lift kits (just kidding!), upgraded control arms, etc.,. in order to improve our off-road performance, and here they are offering us about the same power, likely more usable torque, and a lot less weight to control over bumps, landing jumps, etc.

Plus, think of how much less weight you have to tote around (higher jumps, anyone?), and the new frame has been strengthened over the 1st Gen. Raptor, even though it's carrying a lot less weight with the V6 ecoboost and the lighter aluminum body.. All of this, with very similar power and more torque.

More is better, right? GIMME MORE!!!

All the best,
Dave

I had a 2012 fx4 3.5L ecoboost before the raptor. I love my raptor and the way it handles, but the ecoboost engine was way more rewarding to get into the throttle, It was about 100X more responsive with the exception of the 1/4 of a second turbo lag from idle to WOT. The 6.2 feels like a dog coming from that ecoboost.

After I tuned my ecoboost, a tune that designer claimed puts out 425hp and 500lbs at the crank. It felt like a mini diesel. I can't wait for this 3.5L super tuned ecoboost in the raptor, if it was anything like my tuned 2012 fx4 ecoboost, people are going to love it. But heck if they were offering a v8TT, I'd want that instead. Don't expect good mileage though. I was getting 13.4 MPG with my ecoboost on my otherwise stock 2012 fx4.

I was under the impression it was a forgone conclusion the new SuperDuty was keeping the 6.2L V8 and the PowerStroke. Nothing surprising to that news I didn't think.

There won't be a 5.0L V8 Ecoboost so it's a moot point.

Although I think the poll would be pretty similar even if it was the 5.0L NA vs the 3.5L EB. Even though the 5.0L would have far less power than the EcoBoost.

2016 was confirmed , this article is talking about 2017 superduty.

Extra material to accommodate to cylinders, extra length of cam an crank shafts, tow pistons and connecting rods, springs valves fasteners...
This will not add up to 200-250lbs minimum.
I think there is a heavily biased thumb on that scale!

Don't forget mounts, oil volume, coolant volume, larger radiator etc. timing chain length, extra header exhaust pipe. Longer heads. There's a lot more material than you think
