Painting Brake Calipers

so I did find a local shop today and got an estimate they quoted me $1030 for calipers and tow hooks painted. Wheweee! Not what I expected. That included removal and install of all four calipers bleeding the brakes and removal and install of the front hooks and rear hitch assembly. Talk about a significant diy/pro price discrepancy. I was prepared to pay 5-600$ on the very high end to have some one else do it but 1000$ is a bit too salty for my taste. Think I may be investing in some axel jack stands and some G2 paint in the near future.

Well you can get a great floor jack and jack stands and the paint for a little over $300 (assuming you get 2 sets of the G2...that way you only need 2 jack stands). and you’ll have the floor jack and jack stands when you need em for the next thing ya do! And, you’ll save 700 bucks. Winner! Prep and masking (don’t skimp on masking...mask everything and take your time doing it) is perhaps a bit tedious but it’s a rewarding project which really is not hard...I’m a one-wrencher on a good day! Stage 3 Motorsports by far has the cheapest G2 that I could find. I got the Yellow Floor Jack and 6T jackstands from Harbor Freight (The floor jack is again on sale though not as good a sale as before):

I used high heat spray paint from Autozone. Cleaned thoroughly, masked off, base coat of primer, 2 coats black, 2 coats of orange, 2 coats of clear.

This looks great! Did you leave the rotors on or remove them when you sprayed?

Did anyone lay on a primer or clear coat that used the brush on method and G2 paint? Just picked up my jack and jack stands today.... about to order the G2 paint tonight. Thanks for the idea and the links Troutrad! New harbor freight just opened here within the last month. Made it convenient to pick up the tools you suggested

As allready stated...another benefit of the diy caliper job... I'll be able to use the stands and jack to put on the new exhaust thats on order.

Did the calipers in place. Took the wheel off, wire brushed, thorough cleaning and then masked everything off. There are some YouTube videos of how to do this with spray paint where you really have to mask the whole wheel well. I chose the paintbrush method (G2 Caliper paint) and it was pretty straightforward; had enough left to do my tow hooks too. Longevity is supposed to be extremely long but can’t speak to exactly how long. Other have had their painted calipers for many years without any issues.
